Hear Bishop Briggs Perform an Intimate Version of “River (10 Years Later)”
Michael Molenda

Global alt-pop streaming sensation Bishop Briggs revisits her smash hit “River (10 Years Later),” presenting an intimate performance of the song with multi-instrumentalist Will Bates. Originally released on Briggs’ SoundCloud page, “River,” since its official release in 2016, has grown to mammoth proportions, garnering more than 701 million streams on Spotify and 336 million views of the song’s YouTube video.

In 2026, Briggs decided to celebrate the original version for its 10-year anniversary, opting for a reinterpretation and rerecording of the song, rather than a remix.

“I’ve known the song for a long time, and it was such a honor to bring something new to the table and interpret it in a way that explores how Bishop has matured and changed,” says Bates. “It was a really fun way to approach ‘River’ and introduce different colors and even a different perspective.”

Briggs’ evolution as an artist is charted with “River (10 Years After)” displaying mature and textured vocals, confident energy and a fuller, more polished production soundscape.

But this new and exclusive performance for Guitar Center follows a more sparse and intimate interpretation, with Briggs singing along with Bates’ gentle piano, plucked piano strings and baritone saxophone. You can clearly see Briggs physically and emotionally enacting the lyrics and emoting throughout the vocal narrative.

“I think the sure test a song is resonating is when you have a ‘day of’ demo in its very early stages,” relates Briggs on how she approaches her work. “You listen to the demo in your car and you get very excited, and you start coming up with dreams of what will happen with it. To me, that's the sure sign you're on to something. It doesn't mean the song will go anywhere, but it shows it feels authentic to you and your identity as an artist. That's worth holding on to.”
