The first thing to consider when choosing a new Remo snare drum head is the thickness of the plies. Typically, snare drum heads are between 5 and 14 mm, but that can vary. Another thing to think about is how many plies you want your snare drum head to have: single-ply drum heads are thinner, which makes for a ringing, open tone that's ideal for jazz and light rock.
