COVID-19 Announcements

As the coronavirus impacts our way of life and presents unprecedented challenges, Guitar Center will continue to work closely with government officials to ensure our business practices serve our customers, the community and our associates as best as we can under these trying circumstances.

For more than 50 years, Guitar Center has been an essential part of communities in cities across the nation. Today, we face a never-before-seen set of challenges as the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to impact our way of life. At this time, our focus is the health and safety of our associates, customers and communities.

Guitar Center is following all guidance of local, state and federal government officials on closing stores. Where the government has mandated closure, we have closed stores at or before the time mandated. We will continue to work closely with government officials and local authorities to ensure our business practices serve our communities in the best way possible.

In the few municipalities where government authorities have allowed our stores to remain open, we are adhering to all guidance of government authorities, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to ensure that we are incorporating the most current information and guidance, including physical social distancing, personal care and hygiene. We’ve reduced store hours and increased the frequency of store cleanings, with particular focus on instruments and interactive areas. Hand sanitizers are easily accessible. Out of an abundance of caution we have also closed all in-person lessons. To see if your store is available, click here:

As always, we’re ready to serve our customers through, the Guitar Center app and our Call Centers. Our call centers are available at (866) 498-7882 from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. PDT Monday through Friday, and 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. PDT weekends.

Our associates are at the heart of our business, and we remain committed to making sure they take care of themselves during this time. We are continually directing all employees to take preventative actions as recommended by the CDC, including staying home if they are ill or believe they may be at risk, encouraging physical social distancing and appropriately careful hygiene, such as frequent hand washing. We’ve also adjusted our sick time policy in the interim:

  • • In the event that an associate is diagnosed with COVID-19, we will extend sick pay to cover that employee up to 14 days, without any use of sick or vacation time during that time period. In addition, under no circumstances are we requiring any associate to work if they are not comfortable in doing so.
  • • Where feasible, we have moved to a work-from-home environment in our Music & Arts and Guitar Center Support Centers and Contact Centers. We’ve also ceased domestic and international travel for all employees.

We know that music making is important to our customers, many who rely on their music as income, self-expression or solace. We’re dedicated to helping you wherever we can and we truly appreciate your support in these difficult times.

Ron Japinga
CEO, Guitar Center

As a member of our music lessons family, you’ve been a part of a truly special community that is nurturing the next generation of musicians. At this time, our focus is on the health and safety of our instructors, students, and communities. In an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we have made the decision to temporarily suspend music lessons in all our stores and offer a temporary digital lessons program as a substitute, effective March 20.

Our technology presents an opportunity to keep the Guitar Center lessons program available to students who want to learn or improve their skills, digitally. While we understand that an in-person lesson is preferred, our instructors can utilize the Zoom teleconferencing platform to facilitate students’ weekly music lessons experience.

How our new online lessons offering will work:

  • • We are working to roll out this service so it is currently only available in select areas.
  • • There is no download of Zoom required unless you are using a mobile device.
  • • At your scheduled lesson time, click on the private and secure link that will be sent by our Lessons department from a laptop, tablet or smartphone.
  • • Your instructor or a Guitar Center associate will contact you in advance of your upcoming online lesson via text or email to confirm your online lesson details and send you a Zoom lesson invite.
  • • There is no obligation to use this service. We are happy to place your lessons account on hold for use at a later date.

How to have the best online lesson experience:

  • • Have all your materials such as a pencil, sheet music, and metronome ready.
  • • Prepare your room to be as well lit, quiet and as distraction-free as possible.
  • • Adjust your webcam or mobile device so that your instrument is visible, with your speakers turned to a reasonable volume.
  • • As we ramp up this programming, there could be a few hiccups. It will get easier!

We take great pride in our growing community of music makers, and we hope that our digital lessons will allow minimal disruption to your studies.
