I've owned this cymbal since 1982 (note the hollow underside logo) and have played everything from light combo jazz, and more recently, metal. I've played this ride with drumsticks ranging from a 7A to 2B. I'd recently performed a metal gig, and was concerned that my trusty 20" A Zildjian medium ride, which has served me well for many years of jazz playing, might not have been suitable for heavy metal. My fears were put to rest immediately from the first number...no matter what the volume, it was able to cut through the sound of the group, not just the bell, but also the middle with just the right amount of wash. Even the sound man working the mixing board said that the ride cymbal sounded great. The gig was a success, and I made friends playing with musicians I'd just met. Zildjian cymbals are the best things to happen to drummers since the music itself!!

I'm not gonna lie, I only use this ride because of Thomas Pridgen. Even tho it's a big joint, it can take whatever you give it. If you want it to sound smaller…IT CAN. If you want it to sound bigger then that thang…IT CAN. One of my favorite rides.

Good overall general purpose ride cymbal. The problem with Zildjian is that the quality can wildly vary from cymbal to cymbal of the same size and type.

Most of the music I play is jazz, and my 22" A Zildjian Medium Ride does see use in this application, though the 20" K Ride does admittedly get the lion's share of my jazz playing. With that said, this medium ride is popular because it works in so many venues. Like the New Beat High Hats, the Medium Ride just works everywhere. Stick control is paramount with a cymbal like this, because you can get so much out of it, especially if you're in a smaller venue; this cymbal can get loud if you ask it to. When I play it more gently during jazz pieces, it shimmers a little, though its medium weight definitely gives it good, strong stick definition. Since its A Zildjian harmonics aren't overpowering, this works very well. The bell is distinct when played, more so than the K Ride. When I use the Medium Ride with hard rock, that medium weight gets put to good use. This cymbal will cut through, not as much as a Ping or Rock Ride, but it will do it when called upon. The Medium Ride is not a wimp. I actually prefer its shimmering over the Ping and Rock Rides when playing rock music. Note that this cymbal is not at all "trashy", so if you're looking for that, look to the K's. Rather, the Medium Ride is just easy on the ears and doesn't make you want to scream.

Just what I expected-clear tone huge sweet spot. Good for wash when called for. I've played acoustic settings and full-on rock gigs with it and it's a great all-around instrument.
