I use this hi-hat for practice, live and studio performances. Played the A custom 14" hi-hat voor 25+ years. The Mastersound plays a bit lighter, smoother and has a great stick control. The bright sound is cutting thru the rock music I play and the chick sound is nice and grispy.

  • Excellent stock 14 inch hi hat.

Have always preferred the 14 inch hi hat.... size and clarity performs 90 percent of the music intros and backfills I need. Warm sound, cutting through the music just enough to produce the back stop I want for a selected riff, or embellishment. Might consider bumping up to a 15 inch in the K sweet cymbal package. A new versatility and option in progressive/jazz selections.... that extra 10 percent I might be looking for.

  • Perfect for studio and stage!

Perfect cymbals for live and studio settings. Lovely and articulate. Very little EQ required and a sound tech's dream.

The Mastersound edge on the bottom cymbal gives the closed sound an extra bit of oomph that is really satisfying when playing in loud situations as well as a chunkier open wash that is, in my opinion, much more fun and distinctive than a regular bottom (dare I say better!). However, they can be a bit too bright and quite overbearing at times and aren't necessarily the most versatile, as they definitely lean towards heavier music. Both sizes can cut through anything, with the 15s being deeper and less shrill than the 14s. I go back and forth between the two depending on the room and the artist, but either choice would be a winner

  • Brighter even than expected

I bought these hoping for something completely different than what I have and succeeded. I'm playing fairly old, well patina'd 14 " hats that are quite mellow and dark, but fairly thick and loud. These are very bright, both in appearance and sound. The 'chick' is very short, for lack of a better word. Chokes or gaffs are super cutting. Splashes are very nice and musical to say the least. All in all I'm very satisfied. The price seems a little high in retrospect. But, I knew I was getting a high quality product just because it's a Zildjian, so that's part of what you pay more for I guess.

  • I have this product times two because it's the very best!
