Unbelievable quality for the price

By Todd

Comments about Yamaha TRBX174 Electric Bass Guitar:

Yamaha once again comes through with amazing quality and craftsmanship for a ridiculously low price. This bass is rock solid, stays in tune regardless of being thrown around the house, and plays like a much more expensive model. Just love it! Paired with a Rumble amp (or any amp with vintage/overdrive options), you can create just about any tone you're looking for despite the absence of a pickup switch available on more expensive models. I'm talking Tool "Schism" right out of the box! Simply one of the best deals around.

Comments about Yamaha TRBX174 Electric Bass Guitar:

I have played guitar for years and previously owned a bass (Ibanez Road Star) but didn't put much time into it. I am loving bass today. I purchased this and have been playing it ever since. There is some slight fret buzz but I think upgrading the strings could eliminate some of it.

Comments about Yamaha TRBX174 Electric Bass Guitar:

This bass is awesome. The sound is powerful and crisp - almost an "active bass" tone to it. Nice weight and well balanced. The neck is slightly chunky, with a nut width between a precision and jazz -. very comfortable. Very straight neck out of the box too. I dropped the saddles down to my preferred height and was good to go. No truss rod tweaks needed, unlike my Fender P Bass and Squier PJ! By far, the best $199.00 bass. You will not be sorry. Well done Yamaha!

Comments about Yamaha TRBX174 Electric Bass Guitar:

I picked one of these up for my 10 year old son who had taken an interested in learning to play bass guitar. I took him to Guitar Center and let him try out many different bass styles and scales. After about an hour or so he decided on this bass guitar. He has been playing it daily for a little over a month without any issues. I did have change the strings on it about 3 weeks after purchase. The out of the box setup was great. Intonation was spot on and action was reasonably low. Electronics have worked fine. There is some hum that can be annoying. I highly recommend this bass. It is a great value.

Comments about Yamaha TRBX174 Electric Bass Guitar:

I got the red one and I use this bass in a jazz band as well as for home use when I'm just messing around (obviously I am not a professional bassist). I would say I'm an intermediate bassist, I am not a beginner, but this bass is smooth and satisfactory to play just the same. I don't have anything negative to say about the dials, frets, tuning pegs, overall sound; that all passes the test in my book. It also polishes up really nice and looks great. The only thing I'd say about it is the amount of feedback but I'm not sure if that is the guitar or just the amp, drop cord, etc. I would not use it for a professional gig though.

Comments about Yamaha TRBX174 Electric Bass Guitar:

Should you be in the market for a decent, inexpensive bass, you really should consider this model. Having just arrived home from jamming with six friends, three of whom (including myself) are gigging pros, I felt obligated to congratulate Yamaha Corp for creating such a marvelous bass for the price. I brought my favorite jamming bass--a Squier VM 70's jazz bass--to the jam yet ended up playing this TRBX for four hours. (The guy who owns the studio remarked that he just bought it (used), and he wanted me to try it out.) I'll admit that the controls for the pots are cheap plastic, but everything else about the bass was top notch. It's a passive bass, but the EQ is very responsive with a wide range of voicings from its P/J style pups. Beautifully finished neck, a fretboard with a generous slab of rosewood--it sure looked and felt like rosewood, despite what it's being called in the GC write-up--a really smooth fret-edge finish, solid body wood, but not too heavy. Tuners worked great, and the sunburst stain under the urethane finish was masterfully done. The studio owner bought the bass with flatwound strings, but the pups made them sound clear, with a nice degree of sustain. This TRBX will serve a bassist well as a back-up, but I wouldn't be surprised if some would use it as a main axe (maybe after ditching the plastic knobs for better-quality ones). btw, I had it input to a Tech-21 bass Sansamp (which I use all the time), and into a GK MB210-ii. Even with the Sansamp bypassed, it performed quite well. In summary: Nice surprise!
