This Yamaha Stage Custom Birch mounted tom features a staggered diagonal seam shell that has allowed Yamaha to build thin drum shells that start round and stay round. Low-mass lugs lets the shell vibrate for superb tone and sustain. Yamaha's Air Seal System used for drum shell construction ensures every Yamaha drum shell is of uniform thickness and is perfectly round to achieve superior tone quality and durability.

Features a beautiful high-gloss lacquer finish.

Inherited a nice older Yamaha set with just a 12" and a floor tom and needed to get an 8" or 10" into place for the full fill experience. This thing is pretty as hell (got the Honey Amber) and sounds so sweet. Changed the head to match the others, but the UT that came on it actually sounded really good and was quite responsive, so I might check those out eventually. I had no previous experience with the YESS system, and as I mentioned, this is going on an older kit, so not immediately compatible and some extra hardware was needed, but I'm not going to knock it down a star just because I haven't kept up with the latest or done my homework.

I am very impressed with the Yamaha Stage Custom Birch drums. I bought 10 and 12 inch Yamaha Stage Custom toms that I could add to my 90s Yamaha Recording Custom drum set to mount them on the bass drum to save space when I play smaller venues with smaller stages. I have always been a Yamaha drums fan for many reasons. In my opinion, they have the best tom mounting system (Y.E.S.S.) for ease of use, maximum tom resonance because the tom mount is attached with minimum hardware to the Nodal point of the tom, and for durability. No added hardware like the RIMS and other mounting systems that sometimes actually choke the drum. Although the RIMS system does work well on many drums, I noticed that the YESS system is very consistent. Yamaha is also very consistent when it comes to the construction of the drums. The SC toms sounded great right out of the box. They were well tuned with Remo UT clear heads. Usually stock drum heads don't sound good but these drum heads actually sounded good. The stock heads seemed thin though so I changed them out with Remo clear Emperors on top and Remo clear ambassadors on the bottom. When I added these toms to my 90s Yamaha Recording Custom, I was very surprised at how well they blended sound wise with them and the Cranberry red finish is very close to the Cherry red finish of the Rc's. Theses toms have lots of sustain, they are easy to tune, and they look great. I can tell that Yamaha made some improvements to the earlier models. The main difference I have noticed is that they are using smaller lugs and less hardware on the drums which helps to add sustain to the drum. The SCs are 100% birch shells which is also a major improvement from earlier models. I definitely recommend these drums for beginners or professionals. Try out the higher line Yamahas too. They all sound great.

  • Big Bang for the Money.

Nice looking drum. However the heads that came with it plain a-+ suck. A matching pair of clear what appear to be resonant heads. Ill probably never buy a drum online again. Unable to hear any of the characteristics of the drum or wood. Disappointed in my failure to be smarter.
