Yamaha S115V

I have used these with a sub to run several large DJ/Karaoke events. You will not need a sub for small to medium size venues. They sound fantastic and really pump out the volume. Voices are crystal clear, they have very good low end, and the overall sound generates very positive responses from clients.

I traded in my Yamaha S115V's a few years ago when the DJ market was transitioning to powered speakers. I tried 3 different brands of powered speakers(Carvin, JBL, Mackie) and was not happy with any of them. The highs were always harsh on the ear and bass was muddy and hollow-sounding; like a 5-gallon bucket. Additionally, all 3 sets of powered speakers had overheating issues because they lacked internal cooling fans. I decided to go "Old School" with an amp & speaker setup and bought the S115V's and a Carvin HD3000 amp with a BBE Sonic Maximizer. The Yamaha Club Series speakers still have that rich, natural sound with crystal-clear mids/highs and vibrant bass that I remembered. Aside from sounding great, the S115V speakers have robust construction that can stand up to the rigors of the music business. I never blew a driver or crossover or heard of anyone else who did either. They are virtually bulletproof and extremely reliable. These speakers were introduced over 20 years ago and Yamaha has retained their same design ever since. What does that tell you?

Yamaha designed & built these speaker right the first time because they have remained UNCHANGED for over 20 years. The construction is robust and holds up to the rigors of transport very well. The S115V's have a rich, natural sound with deep bass and clear mids/highs that you simply cannot get from today's powered speakers which have the acoustics of a 5-gallon bucket. Depending on the type of event and its size, I don't need to bring a subwoofer or put these speakers on stands. I use a Carvin HD3000 amp with a BBE-882 Sonic Maximizer, Ecler Nuo 4.0 mixer and Pioneer CDJ 850's.

I've owned dozens of professional-level speakers over the years, and nothing comes close to the sound quality, durability and overall value of the Yamaha Club Series. The V series are amazing. They have a very "full" sound, with less mid-level frequencies, which can cause ear fatigue. JBL's are guilty of this (too much mid-range). They pump out the bass, and the highs are crystal-clear, with no distortion. My only recommendation is to use a high-quality amp, such as the Crown XLS 2500. Get an amp that is both clean, and is in the 750 watt-range (RMS), and you should be fine.

Take it from someone who has been there and done that. In the last 15 years I have used Peavey, Cerwin-Vega, JBL, and recently Harbinger. This year I bought the S115V Club series and they are by far the best speakers I have ever owned. Dynamic, clean, reliable, and loud enough that half the time my subs stay home! I love em, worth every penny and more!!!
