Yamaha Revstar Standard RSS20 Chambered Electric Guitar Mist Green

Description
Taking its design cues from the stripped-down café racers of the 1960s, the Yamaha Revstar Standard RSS20 chambered electric guitar is a full-throttle performance machine that fuses modern precision with vintage attitude. Its chambered mahogany body and maple top deliver a lively, resonant tone, while the three-piece mahogany neck—reinforced with carbon fiber—offers exceptional stability and sustain. A pair of Alnico V humbuckers pack a powerful, articulate punch, with a push/pull Focus Switch adding extra versatility for everything from searing leads to classic crunch. With its road-ready reliability and retro-futuristic vibe, the Revstar Standard RSS20 is all gas, no brakes.
Chambered Mahogany Body With Maple Top for Rich, Resonant Tone
Designed with Yamaha’s proprietary Acoustic Design process, the RSS20’s chambered mahogany body strikes an ideal balance between resonance and control. The carefully contoured chambers lighten the instrument while enhancing sustain and low-end warmth, producing a sound that feels alive and immediate. The maple top adds a dose of brightness and definition—perfect for cutting through a mix without losing fullness. Whether you’re chasing modern rock tones or classic crunch, the combination of these tonewoods delivers exceptional dynamic range, all wrapped in a sleek gloss finish that highlights the Revstar’s racing-inspired curves.
Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Neck for Enhanced Stability and Sustain
With its three-piece mahogany construction and carbon fiber reinforcements, the RSS20’s neck is built road-tough and ready to take on even the most demanding performances. The 24.75" scale offers a familiar, comfortable feel, while the satin finish keeps your hand gliding effortlessly along its surface. Paired with a smooth rosewood fingerboard and 22 medium frets, this neck invites expressive bends and fluid runs with exceptional comfort. The precise set-in neck joint enhances sustain and note clarity, making every chord ring out with definition and authority.
Dual Alnico V Humbuckers With Focus Switch
Under the hood, the Revstar RSS20 is loaded with a pair of Alnico V humbuckers that deliver punch, warmth and clarity across genres. The five-way selector switch provides a surprisingly wide tonal palette, including subtle phase-shifted sounds in positions two and four for airy, single-coil-like tones. Pull the tone knob to engage the Focus Switch, which adds a passive boost reminiscent of overwound pickups—thickening the mids, rounding the highs and giving your sound more bite. It’s a versatile setup that empowers players to move seamlessly from articulate cleans to muscular rock tones with a single instrument.
Performance-Ready Hardware and Vintage-Inspired Appointments
Every element of the RSS20 is designed for reliability and feel. The Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece ensure solid intonation and sustain, while die-cast tuners keep your tuning stable through aggressive bends and dynamic playing. The chambered construction keeps the weight comfortably balanced for long sets, and deep double-cutaways provide unfettered access to even the highest frets. A suite of sleek, café-racer-inspired finishes complete the streamlined look, while a unique hanko headstock mark offers a subtle nod to the guitar’s Japanese roots. Simple, elegant and road-ready, the RSS20 proves that true style is all about performance. A gig bag is included for protection and portability between rehearsals, sessions and shows.
The Yamaha Revstar: Classic Inspiration, Modern Edge
The Yamaha Revstar Standard RSS20 chambered electric guitar is where classic design meets cutting-edge performance. With its café racer DNA, refined playability and studio-ready tone, it’s an instrument built for iconoclasts and boundary-pushing modern players. Whether you’re crafting tones in the studio, commanding the stage or exploring new creative ground, the RSS20 delivers the kind of character and flexibility that make every performance your own. It’s a modern classic—engineered to ride hard, sound bold and inspire every note you play.

These are great sounding and playing guitars. They are well made and are an an amazing value. But the factory input jack and pickup selector are so cheap and terrible. Upgrade both (especially the input jack) and you'll be good to go. Upgrading both will coast 70-80$

I was looking for a double Humbucker guitar and decided the RSS20 would be a good choice. Surprisingly there's not a lot of enthusiasm that I could see for this guitar, but that's a mistake. It is well constructed and comes with features you don't find at this price point. Look up the features and you'll be impressed. More importantly, the sound is terrific. I have Yamaha acoustic guitars that are excellent, so it's not a surprise that the RSS20 electric is a great purchase for me. #SWEEPSTAKES

It's…amazing. The neck is a work of art in itself. It is by far the most comfortable neck I have ever played. It's well balanced and not too heavy; mine is 7.8 lbs. The fit and finish are top notch. I don't really see how the Professional model could improve on the Standard. I realize the Pro is made in Japan and that explains a lot of the price differential, but the Standard is a top quality guitar. The pickups sound unique, especially if you're used to a PAF sounding humbucker. These emphasize the mids and are on the bright side, but I like the sound. They're very articulate as well, almost like a Filtertron if that makes any sense. This thing is unique in that it has a five way blade switch. Usually a two pickup guitar will have a three way switch. The 5 positions sort of mimic a Strat's switch where you can get that in between sound at positions 2&4. It's fun to mess around with. I'd really advise playing one before buying because it really is its own unique thing. Buying it sight unseen would be a mistake. But if you play one in a store, you'll end up loving it.
A fantastic guitar

It's been about 6 months now, and the sound is what I was hoping for. This Revstar both sings and growls.
I would buy this guitar again.

I have my Les Pauls, Teles and Strats. However, this Yamaha Revstar was voted best guitar for overall tones at my latest gig. It can growl when needed but also can handle the delicate notes as well. Craftsmanship is excellent and hardware all works great and makes me a happy owner. Sounding great and playing well at a gig is my ultimate litmus test for guitars. I also design and make my own guitars but I buy 'em when they are a good value. This green Revstar RSS20 is just that and it can keep up or surpass some of my instruments that cost me three or four times as much.

This guitar does not get the recognition it deserves. I personally compared it side-by-side to a PRS SE Custom 24 before buying it. Everything about this Guitar is superior; the feel of the neck, the stainless steel frets the chambered mahogany body. The finish is immaculate. The sound is superior in every way. I honestly feel like I cheated the system somehow and got this superior Guitar for less money than I would spend on an inferior Guitar for more money.
