It's almost scary how good this thing is. I'm a professional musician, not on piano though, but I have always had a piano as kind of a reference tool. As an author might keep a dictionary and a thesaurus handy, I have a piano handy to block out chords, check pitch, that sort of thing. Digital pianos have been perfect for this. The last digital piano I bought was 13 years ago in 2012. It was pretty good - weighted keys, roughly-graded action where the left third of the keyboard was a bit heavier than the middle, and the right third was a bit lighter than that. The sound samples were pretty good and sounded enough like a real piano to meet my needs. Recently I decided to learn to play the piano properly. I know the notes and could "hunt and peck," but I wanted to learn how to play it for real and I ran into the limitations of my old one quickly. It was fine as a reference tool, but it just didn't feel like playing a real instrument. After playing on it, and then sitting at an acoustic piano was a shock because the acoustic played so differently from what I was trying to learn on. I need a digital piano because I live in an apartment, but I want one where my training will carry over to any acoustic piano I happen to encounter. I heard that digital pianos had progressed a lot over the last 13 years, so I went to a dealer to try some new ones. I sat at a Clavinova 295, and WOW. Unbelievable! The key action felt real! Individually graded, counterweighted wood keys, a sustain pedal that worked like an acoustic one with the resonance of the other strings audible, the little click at the bottom of the key travel, I couldn't believe it! And the sound was incredible, in a completely different league from what I had. This is the first time I felt like I could refer to a digital piano as an "instrument." It really is. Then there are the features for learning. I'm out of space to write any more but the streamlights and apps are super helpful!

We bought this piano as a Christmas gift for our children. Once we got it unboxed and set up, all I can say is wow! The sound is simply amazing. If you didn't know it was a digital piano, I think you would be hard-pressed not to think it was a beautiful acoustic grand piano. Our son played the theme from Interstellar on it, and it literally brought us to tears. No exaggeration. It's not cheap, but we have no regrets so far. Plus, it's an attractive piano to boot. Definitely looks like the real thing. The smart pianist app needs a little help, but that's just gravy on top of this beautiful sounding instrument. I can't comment on comparisons with other brands, but I am more than satisfied with this purchase. I'm looking forward to getting a lot of great use out of it.
