The Vandoren V12s are not as bright as the Java Jazz or V16s, but they have their own character, which is better mid-range projection. They also give off a nice harmonic buzz when playing softly. If you're playing in a situation where the audience is able to hear subtle nuances (i.e., not in a loud band), then these reeds are a great choice. Out of my box of 5, I had one great reed as far as playability, one pretty good reed, and 3 functional reeds that are fine for practicing with.
