I bought this to try something new instead of the duncan JB everyone gets. It sounds pretty good, definitely on the hotter side. I put it in a Jackson dinky and now i'm going to put it in a strat. I think I would prefer to get something like a pearly gates for a more classic tone, but if you play modern metal this is alright.

I've been playing for many many years. I am a huge fan of active EMG pickups but thought I would try some new pasive pickups that are out there. I went to the Seymour Duncan website and listened to all the different pickups they had to offer. I choose the TB-5 because it was going in a strat and needed the right string spacing. Got the pickup, put in with the right volume pot for this model, put it back together, plugged it in, and was instantly disappointed. Mud mud mud!!! A distorted mess!!! No tone, lifeless. I'm not just a lame player that plugs in a dumpy Epiphone. I play real guitars and play through real amps. I use 2 1976 Marshall 100 watt Super Leads and 2 marshall cabs in stereo with some effects. An hour after installing these I had them pulled back out and put my beloved EMGs back into it and will never look back again. The only thing I can see using these pickups for is maybe crushing metal and even then I think they will disappoint. Not a fan at all!!!

I am really happy with this pup. I dropped it into a USA Select Jackson KV2. The pickup it came with, the TB-4 (JB), sounded like mush. I wasn't sure a ceramic magnet would respond well to high-gain, they can sometimes sound fizzy. But it seems to be a nearly perfect fit. Sounds great in clean, crunch or high-gain, at least to my ears. I have a JB in my other Jackson(DK2M Pro Series) and it sounds really good, it just doesn't seem to mesh well with the KV2. It seems to me that Jackson just stuck it in the KV2 because it sounds good in their other models. The KV2 doesn't sell as well as the Rhodes, Soloist & Dinky so I don't think the company put much thought into pickup selection for this model. I'm glad I bought it...

I bought this pickup as an upgrade for the Atomic Humbucking Pickup which came stock on my 2009 Fender Highway 1. Let me say the difference is like day and night. It has the smoothness of a PAF with some added crunch. This is a pickup that is very responsive to dynamics and is killer in front of a distortion pedal or a cranked up tube amp. There is no doubt that Mr. Duncan knows his business.

After reading many reviews and consulting experts, I replaced the weak DH-1 in my '06 Fender AmDlx HSS Strat with a Duncan Custom TB-5. The Fender SCN single pickups simply overpowered the underwound "too clean" DH-1 in my Strat. The TB-5 spacing was perfect. The pinch harmonics are angelic and wonderful when you drive your amp, and the ceramic magnet provides a loud PAF type sound than the stock Fender DH-1. I was actually surprised how clear the "clean" sound was from the Duncan. I am very satisfied and would recommend the Duncan TB-5 as an upgrade to any HSS Strat.

Nice pup, very nice harmonics, the descriptions about that pup are 100% right. Very good sustain a little bright with 1M pot, i used 500K. I used it with L59 and Duckbucker, That configuration covers a lot of different types of styles.
