Seymour Duncan

collapse expand iconDescription

The Seymour Duncan SCR-1 Cool Rails Pickup is like the Hot Rails„¢, but wound to produce a clear, bright, dynamic sound. Hot and loud with punchy single-coil sound for stage work. The SCR-1 is a great pickup on its own and also makes an excellent match with a hot humbucker at the bridge. Specify black or white, neck or bridge. 4-conductor cable.

I have used this model in the neck of a Strat with 500K pots and it is excellent. Mixes will with regular single coils. It sounds like a really big single coil pickup. Kind of warm clean, but lots of punch when you add gain.

The sound of this pickup is exactly what I was looking for. It replaces a Seymour Duncan Classic Stack in the neck position of a Fender Duo-Sonic HS. The classic stack was too bright and the Cool Rails is much meatier sounding and pairs well with the Deymour Duncan 59/Custom Hybrid humbucker I have in the bridge position. Using D'Addario NYXL 12-54 strings adds enough tension to make this 24 inch scale guitar really rock for me.

I put this pup in the middle position of my Nashville Tele and I absolutely love it. I put the Hot Rails for Tele set in the bridge and neck, and came out with an incredible sounding guitar. I would recommend this pickup for anyone looking to improve their sound.

I was changing out the stock pickups in my American Strat for noiseless ones and I happened upon this pickup while browsing online. I put a hot pickup in the bridge and I was looking for a more mellow tone for the bridge position for a change of pace. I was incredibly impressed with the tone the Cool Rails put out in my Strat. It's a full, warm tone in clean and surprisingly ruthless with heavy gain. Check out the SD website for tone samples to hear for yourself. I'd also recommend the SVR-1 Vintage Rails for the middle position.

Fitment Considerations: Pickup Cavity Shape: The Mustang uses traditional single-coil pickups, but the pickup cavities are often narrower than Stratocaster routes. The SCR-1 may not fit without modifying the pickguard or body, because it's slightly wider and deeper than vintage-style Mustang pickups. Mounting Style: The Mustang pickups typically mount to the pickguard, not the body. The SCR-1 mounts similarly, but screw spacing and the height adjustment system might not match without modification. Bridge Position Compatibility: Electrically, yes — the SCR-1 (bridge version) is a good match and would work well in the bridge slot if the size fits. Recommendation: Physically measure the pickup cavity in your Mustang or remove the pickguard and check the clearance. Be prepared to modify the pickguard (and possibly the cavity) to install the SCR-1.
