Numark MIXDECK: Introduction

Numark

Description

The Numark MixDeck Universal DJ System is a complete DJ controller and performance station for the DJ who blends different kinds of music sources. Whether your music is on CDs, MP3 CDs, USB flash drives, an iPod, your computer, or even other analog players, you can mix and perform it all using the Numark MixDeck. The all-on-one Universal DJ System has the traditional layout of 2 decks and a mixer and is packed with features that blend the time-honored DJ equipment design with Numark innovation.

Formatting freedom:
The Numark MixDeck has 2 large, touch-sensitive, illuminated platters plus controls for cueing and scratching your music. Each smooth, fast, reliable, slot-loading drive works with both CDs and MP3 CDs. The Universal DJ System lets you connect a USB flash drive on each deck for access to thousands of MP3s without taking a computer or your CDs to the gig.

These advanced decks aren't just MP3/CD players though”they also work as software controllers. Just connect the Numark MixDeck Universal DJ System to your Mac or PC with a single USB cable and you can seamlessly control the music on your computer. The MixDeck's MIDI communication enables you to easily map virtually any DJ software for direct connection from your fingers to the software.

The Numark MixDeck's USB connection can also receive 2 stereo audio channels from your computer, empowering you to mix software audio with CD tracks. MixDeck also has an integrated Universal Dock for an iPod so you can play tracks from your iPod and even record your set into the popular portable music device. The MixDeck has a dedicated iPod fader, physical transport and menu controls, and a click knob so you won't have to touch the iPod once it's docked. (All iPod docking models are compatible with the Numark MixDeck.)

Mighty Numark DJ Mixer:
The Numark MixDeck Universal DJ System has a full-featured DJ mixer already built-in. Each input channel has its own gain and 3-band EQ/rotary kills (+12dB/ -INF). The mixer channels control the audio from the MixDeck's onboard players, incoming audio from your computer, or external sources such as turntables, MP3 players, and more. The Numark MixDeck has 2 sets of stereo, switchable phono/line inputs for external sources. Its replaceable crossfader has switchable slope and reverse so you can customize its performance based on your preferences.

Work the room thanks to MixDeck's 1/4" mic input with its own gain and ±15dB high and low EQ. The Numark DJ mixer also gives you a complete cueing section with dual 1/8" and 1/4" headphone outputs, dedicated cue gain, and mini-crossfader control. You can keep an eye on your master output levels with MixDeck's dual-color stereo LED meters.

The Numark MixDeck Universal DJ System has a flexible output section too with balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA stereo Main outputs, as well as Booth and Record outs for sending your mix to different locations and systems, including recording to your iPod. There's also a direct stereo output from each deck for use with timecode control interfaces including Serato Scratch LIVE software or external effects processors.

Delightful decks:
The Numark MixDeck's advanced platters are touch-sensitive for superb accuracy and smooth control of tracks on discs, flash drives, and software. The platters' outer rings illuminate for visual indication of deck performance and mode. You can adjust the MixDeck's players to perform just like vinyl on turntables thanks to their independent start and stop-time controls on each deck.

FX flavor:
On top of playing all kinds of music media, each one of the Numark MixDeck's decks enables you to add flavor to your performances with integrated, beat-synced DSP (digital signal processor) effects that include chop, echo, filter, flanger, pan, and phaser. Each is completely adjustable, and a dedicated wet-dry fader controls them all.

Pitch power:
The MixDeck contains a set of beat and pitch tools that will help you with beat matching and harmonic mixing. Start playing a track and the MixDeck automatically analyzes its BPM (tempo of beats per minute), and displays it onscreen. There's also a Tap tempo button for manual BPM entry. You can alter the track's BPM by ±6, 12, 25, and 100% using the pitch fader. For each of those ranges, you can also engage Key Lock, which holds the pitch (key) of the track while you independently manipulate its BPM. There's also a set of pitch-bend buttons on each track for quick tweaks.

Realtime remixing:
The Numark MixDeck Universal DJ Station gives you a complete range of remixing tools for on-the-fly creativity, including seamless looping on a set of easy-to-understand controls, sampling, and easily accessible hot cues. Numark's familiar Bleep/Reverse gives you the ability to keep time moving forward while you cut or reverse the track.

You can play tracks from discs in single-track, continuous, and programmable playback modes for flexible performance. For effortless transitions, the Fader Start enables the Numark MixDeck to start playing the track you have cued up when you move the crossfader. You can also use Fader Start with compatible CD players connected to the MixDeck's inputs.

Vivid view:
The Numark MixDeck DJ Controller features two large, backlit displays for keeping tabs on each deck even in poorly lit conditions. You can monitor BPM, CD and MP3 text tags, navigate folders, and keep an eye on effect status on its big, bright screens.

Overall, the MixDeck gives you the ability to perform, mix, remix, and record with virtually any popular music media. Whether you play parties, clubs, events, or in a group, the Numark MixDeck Universal DJ Station gives you the freedom to DJ all in one piece of DJ equipment, with the flexibility to add on and expand as you like.

Excellent unit!

I have been playing vinyl for about 8 years and swore I would never convert to digital, but after years of setting up and breaking down equipment, and lugging crates of records around, it was time to get with it. This is a soild little unit for the guy that wants something to put solid mixes together at the house and to take out to rock a house party or bar gig. The thumb drive feature is awsome! The Ipod port is cool, but you cant control the pitch of the songs. The plates and pitch controls are better quality that I expected, its very easy to cue and control beat matching. The mixer is nothing special, but has all the features I need to blend tracks. I read alot of reveiws about people having troubles with the Tractor program, but with all the storage capacity on thumb drives and cds I havent even conscidered using that feature yet... For the price, features, convenience, feel, preformance, and quality this is a great unit!

Great System...but doesn't work on all Configurations

After reading all the reviews on the mixdeck from critics and consumers alike I dare say, I was sold. I went out to Guitar Center in Beaverton, OR and purchased the system. I've been using it solid (once to twice a weekend since I've had it for the last two months and this is what I've come up with. The equipment is well built, solid, even for being of plastic build, and both platters feel fantastic. All the buttons are responsive for the Ipod and the CD configurations. The LED lit platters help in dark areas as well as the LED lit buttons, and backlit screens. The analog mixer is fantastic, though, the crossfader curve on both ends seems to cut more than fade, making me use the volume sliders to mix songs unless I'm scratching. Overall, the knobs, faders, switches all work great! And the Ipod dock for me has been a lifesaver as has the cd function. Bringing me to my next point. The midi control/USB function of the mixdeck does not work on all computer configurations. I own a laptop which goes beyond needed system requirements and I've still had this issue after reinstalling windows. From the time I tried to use it with Tractor Pro, Virtual DJ pro, and both LE versions of the software on default settings the system did not connect at all. And when it did there was a terrible stutter/cut out of the music. Drivers/firmware/software are all latest versions. I've tried it on other laptops and the same issue has occurred on some, and not others leading me to believe that even with the most current drivers and software this equipment doesn't work on all computer configurations. I hope Numark realizes this soon and works to resolve the issue.

After several call to numark tech support and reinstalling drivers I think I finally figured this thing out. Users each and every time you power this beast on you MUST and I do mean MUST go into the config setup in virtual DJ and select the ch1&2 mixer and the Numark sound card then select apply and ok. Next on your numark controller select USB Midi on both turntables and ensure your switches are set to PC, then load your files from your pc. I tell you this because the userۡs guy does not instruct you to do this neither does tech support. Other than that ensure you have the right drivers installed from numark website and get ready to have FUN.....Also, controller does not work all the time with the IPHONE 4

Ive had this unit for about a year now and its been running fine with the exception of a few major set backs. about eight months after i bought the Mixdeck the entire mixer section failed to work and the right Cdj all of a sudden stopped working. when i called the customer support line they were completely useless, it was the worst support ive ever gotten by far but everyhting got fixed in about a weeks time. all of that aside this unit is a very good investment and will definitely improve your mixing skills. i would recommend buying the road case too; just in case the unit gets bumped during travel

This is my favorite controller for standard use. It's looks good enough in a case to use at formal events and has all the features you need for any standard gig. Platters are really nice, layout is great, no lagtime, and the size is perfect. The inputs are awesome, basically anything except an 8 track works with this thing. It's bigger than most controllers, but smaller than a couple CDJs and an 800 mixer and several times lighter. I've ripped sets of hip-hop, house, 80's, rock, and everything else you can think of and have impressed a few doubters. You can really do some work on this thing. The iPod dock is great because A) It charges my phone and B) If I don't have a song, I download it on iTunes and run it through there. This has been my work horse lately, but unfortunately that also uncovered some of the problems with it. First off, it desparately needs a dedicated sampler section, built in search functions, and could use song search strips and more hot cues. My biggest issue is with the interior build. Unfotunatly I am now rather familiar with something called a tack switch which basically allows the play button to play and so forth. It really hasn't help up well to frequent use, roughly 4-5 times per week. I also had to replace the power button. It has gotten through probably 3 or 400 uses since I bought it, so the investment has more than paid itself off. I just wish Numark put a little more into what you can't see. Overall though, you can really put together some respectable mixes with this thing. It's DDJ-S1. I'll let you know how that works out.

Mixdeck. One word that makes me think DJs greatest tool. Having the avaliablity of mixing all media, and endless features, is perfect. Built solid, and never misses a beat, and runs beautifully with Traktor, or any software you choose. Its worth the price. Highly recomended to beginners, and pros.

  • Skipping/Jumping Music when playing

I bought this mixdeck thinking it would solve my problems of not having a high tech mixer with all the extra looping that I always needed. I tried activating my Traktor program and it seems as if someone used the activation key already. I contacted Tracktor (native-instruments.com) and they said it is Numarks problem. They said that they might have issued the same activation key two times. I have contacted Numark and it has been a week since then, and no reply. That is pathetic customer service. Well that is one of the problems, the other is the sudden jumping or skipping of looping songs. I have set up a loop and all of a sudden it loops back to a spot that I did not initially select it to loop back to. It happens every so often, but when you are DJing live there is no excuses for it not to be working like it is suppose to. Also with the CD players it tends to skip/jump suddenly. This is very atrocious problem when mixing. It will throw you off of your mixing from one song to another and you will look dumb that has never mixed in your life. That is UNACCEPTABLE! I have wasted countless CD-R Audio recorder Blank CDs with this F-en problem as well. I do personal mixes that I get paid for and it is costing me money to have to buy more all the time it skips/jumps. They are not easily found anywhere any more. I will say this though, when I fist bought this Mixer I told myself it is too good to be true! I used to have a CD-Mix 2 and that one played flawlessly. Never skipped CDS never failed when looping. I am now considering spending the money like I should have, buying Pioneers CDjs. They are way more expensive but they don't have these issues. Atleast not from what I see/hear at clubs and from people that use them. BE AWARE OF THESE ISSUES WITH NEWER NUMARK PRODUCTS.

I bought it and attempted to use Traktor. Joke. Used VDJ. JOKE...I have Serato and it works perfectly. No you can not map the platter but using it in the AUX mode... MAN the thing is solid. I have an external HD. My laptop is an OLD clunker. Big, weighs 10 lbs and has a 50GB hard drive. but man does this controller work for me. I haul it everywhere. When I show up with it in the case, they know I came to rock the party. Based on the other reviews, its how your rig is set up that will allow for you to receive the most out of this product. Keep Spinning and never ever have dead air when your on the tables.... PEACE @djcopperkidd
