Guitarist, producer, and holder of an electrical engineering degree from LSU, Jim Odom has never let the grass grow under his feet. Founding PreSonus Audio in his garage in 1995 with the goal of building affordable, professional-level tools for musicians and audio engineers, it didn't take long for the company to grow into larger facilities. Their first product, a digitally controlled eight-channel dynamics processor that was fully automatable, not only holds a key patent in digital control over analog processes, but gave small-studio engineers access to features previously available only on studio mixers that cost well over $100k. Presonus has brought advancements in just about every area of modern-day recording, including analog and digital compressor/limiters, audio/MIDI interfaces, as well as low-latency mixing and signal processing software, mic preamps and channel strips.
In 2013, PreSonus launched its first line of studio monitors, Eris, which offer professional-quality sound priced for project and home studios. PreSonus quickly followed with their first step into live sound speakers in 2014, a precursor to the popular StudioLive loudspeaker series.
The StudioLive family is also home to a line of powerful and versatile professional-quality mixers that range from portable to heavy-duty 32-channel digital mixing consoles.
Odom, who still performs as a guitarist with Lousiana's Leroux, also remains connected to his Baton Rouge roots, with company holiday cards that have featured bayou scenes and cartoon alligators, as well as maintaining a close relationship with the pool of talented engineers emerging from LSU. PreSonus takes pride in the reputation for service and reliability they've developed over the years, leaving users extremely satisfied and life-long customers for the products that keep them playing.
PreSonus has continued to develop products that make musicians' lives easier, from the Blue Tube mic pre and FireStation audio interface to the award-winning StudioLive series of digital mixing consoles, with no signs of slowing down. The company’s current tagline offers great insight into their work: “Music is our life. PreSonus is our day job.” There’s no question PreSonus is among the best companies in terms of pairing their musical experience and engineering prowess As Odom said in an interview for LSU's engineering department, "Technologies advance and new problems are always surfacing needing elegant solutions from talented engineers."
