This is the least expensive snare I've bought in years and yet, it's definitely one of my favorites of all time! Something about a 6" depth really works on a 13" snare to me. Fit and finish are excellent - in fact, extraordinary for the money - and the lugs are really nice. Tunes up easier than any other snare I've tried, but I did switch out the stock heads for a coated ambassador on top and Evans 300 on the bottom. I've always gone with a pretty tight snare sound, which this drum can definitely do, but there is just something that really spoke to me with this drum tuned medium to medium low! Speaks with authority, isn't clanky like a lot of metal snare drums, and the rimshots are explosive! In fact, the rimshot are just downright addictive on this drum...I have honestly never enjoyed laying into a drum so much in my life! No complaints at this price point, but of course, a better throw would be nice, but the stock one gets the job done. The snares are a little buzzy, so I ordered some Fat Cats w/pitch to see if that helps. In its stock form, this drum is one of the best deals in drums IMO, but it's also a good platform for upgrades (snares, throw, butt plate, rims) if you're so inclined. Very happy with the Little Squealer - I've bought and returned/sold more snares than I care to admit, but I don't see me parting with this one!

99% of steel snares I have played fall in the cheap sounding/included with your starter kit category. This one changed my perspective on steel. The 14" version sounds huge, has great crack, and has 3 very distinct tuning ranges, but I like the mid and high tuning better. The steel overtones that the shell generate are actually highly melodic, and blend well with the band. The shell is heavy, the rims are heavy... come to think of it, this is probably the heavies little squealer I've seen. Good heads make a huuuuge difference with this drum. Evans Hazy 300 on the bottom, and either Evans Genera HD dry, Remo coated Controlled sound, or Remo Black Suede Emperors will sound great. The snare is ok, but upgrading to something like the puresound custom or blasters will make a big difference on the sound. The only low point on this drum is the throw. Its pretty standard, but could be smoother. Great snare drum for a killer price.

This little guy is LOUD! Seems to be made with quality in mind. Didn't find any defects. Pretty basic design, nothing fancy as far as features, a plain and simple steel snare with a great metal snare sound. Why anyone would want more? If you want a metal snare sound on your setup, this is an outstanding option, small price with big sound. Once you try it, you will want to buy it, I bet!

It's no secret that Pork Pie is expensive but makes quality products. While this product is at a more reasonable price, it still sounds amazing! If you're looking to upgrade at a good price, or getting an intro Pork Pie snare, this is a good start.
