Super Crush 100 - An Introduction with Ty Tabor

Orange Amplifiers

collapse expand iconDescription

The Orange Amplifiers Super Crush 100 guitar amp head is an upgraded take on the popular Crush Pro amp. Building on the success of the original, Orange redesigned the Super Crush 100 from the ground up to provide an even bigger, richer tone. With its single-ended, 2-channel JFET preamp and 100W class-A/B power amp, this compact yet mighty amp head mimics the huge, responsive sound of Orange's flagship Rockerverb amps. From sparkling cleans to heavy distortion, the Super Crush 100 delivers touch-sensitive dynamics and lush overtones that will have you questioning whether there are tubes inside.

Authentic Tube Sound Without the Tubes

While the original Crush Pro earned accolades for getting close to tube tone in solid state form, the Super Crush 100 takes it to another level. High-quality analog circuitry and a redesigned preamp provide the immediacy, definition and character that Orange is known for. The Dirty channel offers four stages of gain to produce everything from a hint of grit to full-on overdrive. And the Clean channel delivers shimmering cleans with headroom to spare. This amp sings with harmonic richness and authority that seems almost impossible from a solid-state design.

Speaker Emulation for Maximum Flexibility

The Super Crush 100 features Orange's CabSim technology, an analog speaker emulator that provides the sonic experience of playing through a 2x12 cabinet. Switch into Cab Back mode to choose either an open or closed-back cabinet sound. You can run the emulated signal directly to a PA or recording interface, or use CabSim in tandem with a physical cabinet connected to one or both of the amp's speaker outputs for an even bigger sound. This flexibility makes the Super Crush 100 ideal for both stage and studio use.

Reverb and FX Loop for Added Ambience

To complete your tone, the Super Crush 100 offers built-in reverb with controls for reverb level and tone. It also includes a fully buffered effects loop that allows you to integrate your favorite stompboxes and rack effects. With reverb, CabSim, and an FX loop at your disposal, you have everything you need to craft a compelling sonic signature and transport your audience.

Classic Orange Looks in a Compact Package

Clad in Orange's iconic livery, the Super Crush 100 packs an incredible amount of power and tone into a small, lightweight enclosure that's ideal for gigging and practice spaces alike. It provides a straightforward control set with minimal fuss, so you can focus on your playing. As the latest offering in Orange's long line of innovative amps, the Super Crush 100 delivers the brand's signature sound and style in an amp head built for today's working musicians.

Sounds great!

The tone is very mid focused. It cuts nicely in a mix. The low end is tight & mild, not flubby. The onboard reverb is not bad, definitely usable. It's part of the master section, after the effects loop, so it's included in both the speaker output signal and the direct output signal but not included in the effects send output signal. Silent recording using the effects loop send will not include the onboard reverb. The clean channel has a lot of clean headroom but also provides a nice tube-ish type breakup tone when maxed out. I tested the clean channel with several overdrives and distortion pedals, it takes pedals well. I wish the clean channel was a little less mid focused. Using an EQ pedal in the effects loop should help resolve. The effects loop is nice, clean and quiet. The XLR direct output with cab sim does not sound great on it's own. Using the direct out with impulse responses made a huge difference. Sounds great when using with IR's. The master volume knob controls both the direct output and the speaker output. For silent recording, I imagine you can run the amp without a speaker connected. Seeing that the power amp is class A/B, it should be able to operate without a load, no issue… but I would double check with Orange support before doing so. Overall great amp!!

I would get one for myself...just don't need to.

I got this for my daughter as she has been using a little 25 watt fender combo amp that doesn't translate well. She needs, in my opinion, a big girl amp...not a toy. I plugged it in for an hour with no FX and I was fairly well impressed. It's not a Marshall or a tube amp but I think it gets close, very close. I almost went back out and got another one but I have enough amps of my own. The clean channel chimes beautifully and the dirty channel does the job...needs an overdrive or an MXR distortion effect to get high gain sounds but if your not looking for that, no FX required. Solid 7 out of 10 for me.

I bought this after being very impressed with the tone options I had with their Orange Mini Crush practice amp (also solid state) but quickly learned that it lacks the built-in overdrive that the Mini Crush has. With a Tumnus pedal, I can get close but the mids just keep finding a way through when I'm trying to get creamier, fuzzier tones. Don't get me wrong, it's a killer head for the price and the 100 watts can get it LOUD when you need it but it doesn't quite emulate the "tube sound" I was hoping for after reading several reviews. If they added an overdrive (no matter what you read, overdrive is in fact a different animal than gain), this could really be a five star alternative to expensive tube amps but if you want true tube sound, just get a tube amp.

I am absolutely blown away..I have ALWAYS been a tube guy( evh 5150iii, Mesa dual rec, peavey 6505 just to name a few) I play in several bands including metal originals and classic rock covers this amp nails everything flawlessly. It does Indeed sound and feel like a tube rockerverb.

Heard the Super Crush on youtube a few times and really liked the sound. I was just picking up guitar at the time so I didn' want to drop a lot of money on an amp so I ended up getting a Boss Katana as my first amp, also a great amp. But as I learned and found the sound/tone that I liked I started gravitating towards the Super Crush again, so I bit the bullet and picked one up and connected it to a 1x12 cabinet. I love everything about this amp, its really easy to sound good. The clean channel takes drive/distortion pedals very well, the dirty channel pairs well with a tube screamer, light overdrive, or clean boost. Reverb is great, and it sounds amazing. Great for Blues, Metal, and Rock, that's pretty much what I play so that's all I got. Unbelievable value for the price.
