As the starting mic in a great hard rock puppet show, that I want to perfect to a "Live" show. Even $90 is up there, because of the stage itself. this is wack form of karyioke, but real fun. Need a decent starter mic, i can beat up
GREAT FOR VALUE!

I like the sound a Ribbon Microphone provides, I have a higher level NADY Ribbon so I thought I knew what to expect. I bought this as one-half of a live mic pair for remote recordings. The Figure 8 pattern will allow ambient sounds (like an audience) to be recorded at a lower level than the front loaded ribbon and reject side extraneous noise. I also like the 'pumping effect' produced by the proximity effect if you get it up close and personal to the source. Unboxing the mic as Nady advises I checked for ribbon tension and it seems to be spot on, no rattles even at high amplifier volume. SWEET! The build is pretty robust and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the lack of an exterior windscreen (necessary) and the cloth bag that comes with it. Nady advises to store it upright but that is a little bit difficult when it is in a cloth bag and has no skeleton to it. I would gladly pay another 15-20.00 for these two items but enough of that lament. It sounds BIG! I was surprised when I played back the recordings from this passive mic (as opposed to the 48v Ribbon I have already have). It did EXACTLY what I was looking for and nothing less. Skip the cork sniffing if you are looking for a decent Ribbon Mic, at this price point, there is nothing else remotely close. I would replace it in a heartbeat if necessary. Excellent microphone, well done Nady.
