NS Design

collapse expand iconDescription

This electric cello is a great choice for the player looking for their first electric instrument. The WAV4c includes the best combination of design, performance and affordability. Easy to transport, this electric cello captures the essence of an acoustic instrument, but includes an exciting range of new possibilities.

Utilizing the NS patented Polar Pickup System, the WAV4c produces an amazingly natural cello tone without the problems of feedback and wolf tones. The pickup makes the use of electronic effect and looping easier and more effective than an amplified acoustic cello. The dual-mode pickup allows the player to switch from lateral (bow) to vertical (pizzicato) sensitivity, for even more control over attack and decay, which results in additional expressive potential.

The asymmetrical fingerboard relief offers extraordinary playability in all positions. This fingerboard, featuring Coform technology, utilizes the engineered pairing of maple and high-tech acrylic to produce an ebony-like appearance with outstanding feel and performance, while helping to sustain traditionally used hardwoods.

  • Awesome Instrument - Beautiful Acoustic Sound

The sound is a warm, resonant, beautiful acoustic tone, with great sustain. Unlike an acoustic, it's super portable. The fingerboard dots are super helpful, and don't let some snooty purist tell you otherwise!!! It has bass tuning machines which are far superior to pegs. My guitar Snark fits easily onto the headstock. I plug in to a Boss Dual Cube Bass LX for practice, and get great tone. It has monster sound going into the board (mic channel) and out the mains. My preference was the simple and elegant white paint job, but there are many style choices. I got a Fiddlerman cheepo bow to start and it's fine for now. Rosin is a necessity too. I'm a performing guitarist but totally new to cello. I find this is a great cello to dive in with. My classroom cello instructor is in love with this instrument and is recommending it to parents as an upgrade for the their kids' starter cellos! Most info out there is for acoustic instruments, but my instructor recommended the book "String Essentials - Cello - Book 1" as you can easily adapt it for an electric. Go in peace good people, and play more cello !!!

I recently purchased this cello because I am in the middle of moving overseas and do not have my acoustic cello as it is in storage in the country I am trying to move to. I wanted something small that I can take with me on a plane and this is perfect size. The craftsman ship is lovely, the color is bright and very satisfying to play. I never owned an electric instrument so this is going to take some trial and error for me to get tuned to play just how I like. With that being said the stand it comes with is great, you can plat in both the standing and seated position. You do not need the end pin kit to play while seated. If you want a more realistic feel when playing then sure buy one. But it is not necessary, I do recommend this for people who want to get into the electric world, I can see this getting a lot of use both now and when I get back to my acoustic.

  • Don't buy any NS Cello

Don't buy any of these NS cellos. It's kind of a scam. You can't really play this without the "end pin" kit that allows you to make the minor tilt and angle adjustments with your knees which is needed for proper play. But they only make a very limited number of the "end pin" kits every 7 months or so. They are perpetually out of stock. So it just ends up being an expensive conversation piece sitting in the corner.
