Meinl Cymbals B22EDMR Byzance 22" Extra Dry Medium Ride Cymbal

20" Byzance Extra Dry Medium Ride

Description
Dark and dirty. These are the words that describe the Byzance Extra-Dry cymbals. The surface is completely unlathed and untreated (crashes are lathed on the bottom). Just raw hand-hammered bronze--for a raw earthy sound. There is no wash. The extremely short sustain and stick definition come from the deep hammer marks layered with a more traditional hammering. Smoky sound, buttery feel and a 2-year warranty. Use for studio, fusion, Latin, R&B, country, rock, jazz and pop.

Features
- B20 bronze alloy
- Hand hammered into shape

This Ride cymbal is an absolute beauty. Unfortunately there are not many music shops that carry Meinl cymbals. I took a gamble on this one when I found it on ebay used on another music companies website. I had heard many MyCymbal.com clips and was satisfied although I did not hear a clip of the particular cymbal I was buying. When it arrived in the mail, I played it and fell in love with it. The following day I played two gigs with it and every musician I played with commented on the beautiful articulation of the cymbal. Very dry and the bell is natural, earthy and cutting. Both gigs I played jazz. One combo and one big band. I played an Earth, Wind and Fire Set big band set and it did the job quite well. Besides the internet clips, If you need a comparison of how this cymbal sounds, listen to Jack Dejohnette's main ride on the 'Live At The Blue Note' recordings. Extremely dry, articulate, driving. This cymbal can be used with any genre. I believe this cymbal is the equivalent of zildjian's special dry ride but this cymbal is just less 'metallic' sounding. I highly recommend this cymbal to any musician/drummer who is serious about playing and complimenting the musicians around them.
Excellent!
