Gibson

collapse expand iconDescription

Introduced in 1990, the '57 Classic humbucker pickup provides warm, full tone with a balanced response, packing that classic Gibson Patent Applied For crunch. They are made to the same specs as the originals, including Alnico 2 magnets, nickel-plated pole pieces, nickel slugs, maple spacers and vintage-style, two-conductor braided wiring. The ’57 Classic humbucker features balanced coils for a smoother, creamier tone and excellent hum cancelation. The pickups are also wax potted to remove all internal air space and any chance of microphonic feedback.

In operation since 1935, the Gibson Pickup Shop is paying homage to its past by offering the Original Collection which includes this '57 Classic 2-conductor humbucker. Built to the same specs as the vintage Gibson P.A.F. pickup with Alnico II magnets, nickel-plated pole pieces, maple spacers and braided wiring, the '57 Classic produces a warm and rich tone with a balanced frequency response. The pickup is potted to remove internal air space, diminish microphonics and prevent stress on the pickup wires.

The '57 Classic is crafted in Nashville, Tennessee.

Looking to get a 57 for the neck...is uncovered better for punk and metal or is the gold or nickel covered one better?

Uncovered (Zebra): Slightly brighter, more bite, and a touch more output due to less capacitance. This can help with articulation and edge, which suits punk and some metal styles, especially if you're going for raw and punchy. Covered (Nickel/Gold): Slightly warmer and smoother with a tad less high-end presence. This can round out the tone a bit, which might be preferable for more traditional or vintage-flavored tones. For punk and metal, the zebra (uncovered) version is generally better if you're after more cut and clarity in the mix. But if you prefer a smoother, warmer tone, a covered version could work too.
