The JMJ Road Worn Mustang® Bass | Artist Signature Series | Fender

Description
The Fender Justin Meldal-Johnsen Road Worn Mustang Bass brings JMJ's iconic '67 Mustang Bass to life. Known as a true renaissance man of the modern music scene, Justin Meldal-Johnsen's bass credits include Beck, Nine Inch Nails, and Drake, among others. His production credits include Jimmy Eat World, Paramore, and M83, among others. JMJ is a shining example of today's breed of multi-genre musician/producers, ever pushing boundaries and inspiring others.
Custom Seymour Duncan Split Single-Coil Pickup
The JMJ Road Worn Mustang Bass is powered by a custom-spec split-coil Seymour Duncan pickup, perfect for punchy basslines with plenty of low end. The short 30" scale gives this bass a tight, focused tone, while the 9.5" radius fretboard with rolled edges offers familiar, comfortable playability for any bassist.
Road-Worn Style Straight from the Stage
Designed for comfort and speed, this bass also has stage-ready style. The nicks, scratches, and worn finish reflect years of use, showing this is an instrument that has earned its place. From the worn-through paint on the alder body to the aged hardware, the JMJ Mustang looks and feels road-worn and ready to play.
Modern Sound and Feel
While the JMJ Road Worn Mustang Bass has a vintage look, its tone and playability are thoroughly modern. The maple neck and rosewood fretboard make this bass fast, smooth, and easy to play. The shorter scale means pronounced low end, tight highs, and a scooped midrange perfect for any style.
Premium Gig Bag Included
The JMJ Road Worn Mustang Bass includes a deluxe gig bag for protection and portability. Generously sized zippered compartments give you space for cables, straps, sheet music, and more.

Fender nailed it!

I started scaling down from a P-bass, to a medium scale Jaguar CV Squire (32"), and I was looking for the right short scale to fill that gap in my arsenal. I kept going into my local GC and playing the Fender Vintera II that they had and I was pretty impressed, but I wanted to try out on of these JMJs and no shops in my area had one in stock. So I took a gamble and found a used one at a GC across the country and ordered it. Best decision I have made among all of my bass purchases in the last three years. Warm tone, smooth neck, for me the flat wounds are easier to play than rounds. I take advantage of that 45 day return window so much they know me by first name at the local GC. This one didn't go back!
Terrific short scale bass

I was looking for a short scale bass for my wife, and had almost pulled the trigger on a Mustang Vintera. Played a JMJ and was glad I waited. Love it! It's like a brighter P Bass, but the flat wounds keep it from being overly bright. It sounds great clean and also with fuzz (I'm partial to the Muffuletta, set to JHS). The low end is phenomenal. I don't love the "road worn" thing, but it's definitely a faithful repro of a '66. It has some thoughtful vintage touches like the Daphne Blue, transition logo, antique pearl pick guard, etc. In summary, it's a terrific short scale bass—highly recommended!
Love at First Sight

I purchased my JMJ Road Worn Mustang Bass used from GC. Surprisingly the guitar survived its journey from the GC in Florida to Wisconsin because it was package with BARE MINIMUM protection. Oiled up the severely dry fretboard and checked intonation which was spot on! Plug it in and tested it and MAN! Love at first sight! It's everything the reviews say it is. I'm a beginner for the most part that's already owned my fair share of bass guitars. My most recent venture was modding a Squire Mini P with Fender precision bass pickups, brass hi-mass bridge, and Gotoh tuners. My Mini P almost had it and it's still a favorite, but my used Road Worn Mustang is a very welcomed upgrade! Absolutely perfect!
Thank you, Fender!

I received my JMJ Mustang via UPS last week. As soon as I tuned it up and plugged it in (Avalon U-5 into the studio console) it was immediately clear that this is a serious, no corners cut, professional instrument. It has the solid, settled-in feel reminiscent of some of my favorite old Precision basses (especially my '64s). Even the standard equipment Fender 9050-L flatwound light gauge strings (45, 60, 80, 100) sounded so fat and even all up and down the neck I would have sworn that they were medium gauge. No dreaded dead spots or intonation issues. Fret ends have a good smooth, polished feel. Volume and Tone pots are linear with just the right resistance. While it's not a "light weight", it feels like it would be no problem over the course of a long show. Fender has nailed this one, folks. Mind-blowingly good.

WOW what a sound! The set up was near perfect. This is my second Fender short scale bass. I'm not so young anymore, short scale has put the joy back into playing.

Great product. I am a vintage collector. This is the only 'new' guitar i own. I fell in love it at first sight. Everything about it is perfect (after a set up).
