Best keyboard

The PSR-SX900 features content from the flagship, Genos Digital Workstation. This next-level content sounds incredible through the newly designed, bi-amped speaker system with wide stereo audio field. Navigate with ease using the 7" TFT touch screen, or setup the assignable buttons to access your preferred functions. Other new features include a joystick controller, Chord Looper, new keyboard action inherited from Yamaha synthesizers, new insertion effect structure, Style section reset, and more. The PSR-SX900 helps make music easier and sound better than ever. The color touch screen allows you to easily see the state of Voice and Style assignments and quickly access and adjust a wealth of features and settings. The Joystick Controller allows the player to achieve the wide variety of pitch and modulation combinations present in many different world music styles. Assignable real-time control knobs allow you to filter and adjust your sound just like an analog synthesizer. Chord Looper allows you to record your chord progressions so that the Style engine can loop them for you, freeing you up to experiment with two-hand playing or soloing without having to worry about playing the changes. Style Section Reset allows you to go back to beat one of bar one with the touch of a button. This is handy when a musician you're playing with comes in too early or late and you need to get your accompaniment back on track. The 16-track song recorder/player lets you create full arrangements or play back songs. Accompaniment Styles add a "backing band" to your performances while you remain in complete control of chord changes and arrangements. Record and play back performances in MP3 format. Conveniently share your music with friends and family online or burn a CD. Playlist lets you attach a number of settings such as Style, MIDI/audio song, Registration Memories, to any song record you create for instant recall when it's time to perform.

Not as good as the Tyros 3-5

I had this for about 2 weeks. I have owned all the Tyros keyboards 1-5, and the Tyros 3-5 sounds better than this in my opinion. I also own the Genos. I did not like the sound on this as much as the Genos or the Tyros models 3-5. I also thought the keys felt cheap. The keys are improved from previous psr models, but they still felt cheap to me, and made it easier for me to make mistakes and slip off them with my fingers. For this price they should have been better. I own a Tyros 2, 3 and 5 keyboard presently. The Tyros 3 keyboard has better S1 and S2 opportunities, and the keys felt much better. I think the Tyros 3 also sounds better than this psr sx900. As I said, I have owned them all, and returned the Psr sx900 because the sound was worse than my Tyros 3, and the keys felt much worse to me.

My father gave me this PSR-SX900 as a gift. This keyboard has a very nice sounds engine, that generates good quality instrument sounds. The operating system is stable, but it still has some glitches, including during MIDI recording. Unfortunate, the keybed is poor. Keys stuck sometimes during performance. Overall performance is wonderful. I love this keyboard.

Sounds, styles, and features are above my expectations. It truly can sound like a band or even an orchestra. It has more content than I will ever use. Two slight negatives - the keys are so slick that may have to find a way to rough them up a little; and, the manual and online resources are a bit muddled and hard to grasp.

My second yamaha board, used the PSR S series but was longing to see what the SX series has brought in, the sx series is more than enough for an expert player if i can say. now owns the sx 900, for more than an year and it is wonderful, i truly enjoy playing. I use some additional voices from tyros that plays well in this board.

Beautiful instrument, huge potential, a lot of possibilities. The only thing I would suggest is to provide owners of SX900 with opportunities to upgrade this model up to SX920 by a firmware. This potential firmware upgrade can be purchased for a reasonable price. In this case both sides, owners of SX900 and Yamaha, would be in a win situation because Yamaha would get additional profits from existing owners of SX900 and existing owners of SX900 would get much more possibilities from their existing SX900 by buying the firmware upgrade to SX920 level. Otherwise Yamaha will get nothing from existing owners of SX900 because it is not practical for owners of SX900 to sell their SX900 to buy SX920 since potential buyers of pre-owned SX900 unlikely will buy SX900 for the good price because there's no reason to pay for pre-owned SX900 good money if SX920 is available for the same or almost the same price. So, on the one hand, Yamaha will just loose potential profits and on the other hand owners of SX900 will remain upset and disappointed without possibility to upgrade their existing SX900 up to SX920. In this case no one will win. Why not to get additional profits and at the same time make your customers happy?
