While there isn't a huge difference, as Yamaha and some other makers (i.e. "Music Garden by Kulossa ", IF you can manage to get one in the USA) are very good, the Aulos Haka models just have a more "lively" sound to my ear, are stronger in the lower register while still having good intonation in the upper registers, and just feel more enjoyable to play. It likely has something to do with the slightly longer bore and the harmonics. Also, Aulos are tuned to A=442hz rather than Yamaha 's A=440hz so they're closer to standard tuning. Anyway, you won't find a better ABS Resin Recorder, and a comparable wooden one will cost you hundreds of dollars.

Great tuning and very responsive. Fake woodgrain has a nice feel
Sweet sound but not for big fingers

If my fingers were slightly bigger, I would not be able to play this. It will be a challenge, but a fun one

This is the highest quality ABS Resin constructed Recorder available to purchase, and it far exceeds the quality of wooden Recorders until you get into prices ranging in the hundreds of dollars. While the regular (702B) Aulos Haka model without the fake woodgrain (which this one, the 702BW, has) is also rated 5 stars everywhere, this matte finish makes it even more attractive and easier to hold. I believe there is a very slight improvement in tonal warmth as well playing them side-by-side, although I don't know how that's possible. For anyone serious about the Recorder, this is the real deal without spending a fortune.
