Yamaha NTX900FM Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar Flamed Maple

Description
This NTX starts with a solid Engelmann spruce top, for warm, balanced tone. The neck features nato, a softer wood, while the back and sides are flamed maple, giving a beautiful and wavy veneer. Also known as "curly maple", flamed maple is prized for its bright, stunning appearance. Hard and strong, it is often used for necks on electric guitars. When used for backs and sides it produces a crisp, clear, less resonant tone that cut through well making it great for lead playing.
The Yamaha NTX900 acoustic electric guitar also features the A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement), an original wood reforming technology developed by Yamaha. Through precise control of temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, the molecular properties of the wood can be manipulated into a more acoustically ideal condition, similar to the molecular characteristics of woods in instruments that have been played for years. In NX Series guitars, this treatment results in a sound close to that of a vintage guitar that has been played for years. It produces a sharper tone while simultaneously controlling dissonance in the high range. Instruments that have undergone this process have received high marks from a great number of musicians. Their evaluations are nearly identical to those for guitars that have been played for years, and their comments often include terms such as "well settled," "mature," "warm," "excellent resonance," and "clear."
Yamaha's ART (Acoustic Resonance Transducer) pickup system is purpose designed to offer the most natural, dynamic and expressive electro-acoustic sound on the market. Proprietary multi-layer contact sensors perfectly combine ultra-wide dynamic range with outstanding feedback rejection for the most accurate and natural performance sound. The Yamaha NTX900 uses a 2-way system with contact pickups mounted on the treble and bass sides of the guitar bridge. To reduce unwanted feedback caused by vibration the NX Series contact pickup uses an additional multilayer damper to ensure the tone is captured in its purest form. Complementing the warm, full mid-range of the nylon-string tone, the System 61 preamp allows individual volume control over the treble and bass side pickups, allowing you to get the perfect blend for your style. The System 61 preamp also features a 3-band EQ for sound shaping and an on-board tuner.
Dressed in a natural finish, this Yamaha acoustic electric guitar will turn heads and ears with its construction, beauty and sound. And thanks to the pickup system, amplification is a cinch. Case sold separately.

Have tried out both the NTX 900 and 1200 models. Except for one issue, these were nice classical guitars. Unfortunately, both produce an unpleasant, and unusual resonate tone in the 3 lower bass strings when amplified. I'm left thinking it's not something that's wrong with them, but rather it's just characteristic of their particular body resonance and pre-amp sound reproduction. The tonal quality is so odd and unpleasant through my amplification, that it's not the characteristic sound I would expect from a thin-line classical-type guitar. Returned them both.

I bought this guitar recently based on high reviews, but found it was less than what I had hoped for. Although the guitar is certainly pretty and has good electronics, the spacing of the strings at the nut are closer than necessary, which can cause finger buzz errors. The nut at 48mm is wide enough for better spacing so I am having a new nut put in with wider spacing. The guitar is very quiet unplugged because of the shallow design; don't expect much sound at the campfire. I also recommend replacing the plastic saddle with bone for a better sound and sustain of the strings. The Nato neck is heavy and tends to pull the guitar down when strapped on you. I still like the guitar but I felt like someone should talk about the drawbacks so as to let buyers be better informed.

Overall very impressed with the value of this guitar. You will be hard pressed to find a better one with these features for this price. The fit and finish is great. The tone is excellent whether it's plugged in or not. The onboard tuner works well. The neck width at the nut was my primary reason I got this series as it is closest to my Taylor steel string so I am not missing chords or notes. Many guitars are too narrow at the nut and some are too wide, but this one is just right! I also like the flame maple option. The bodies a little narrow but it projects well. It is a littleneck heavy with a strap on however. No marker inlay option, or pick guard but those can always be added. I also wish there was an option for different tuners has the marble orangish isn't to my liking. Should have an option to match the hardware or exotic wood would be nice.

...Thanks to rodrigo y gabriela the ntx and ncx were created. I play their song "logos" on my old guitar and dont like sound but when i first played this song on the ntx it sounded like the studio recording. out of all the guitars i have played, this the wright one for me. you dont have to switch to a different guitars to play a different song. i can play ACDCs "highway to hell" and play some mariachi and flamenco music with the same guitar.its like 1000 guitars in one.

I love this guitar. I was looking for a versatile guitar that could play jazz, classical and contemporary music. After months of researching online and saving (I am poor college student:) I decided to buy this guitar. I fell in love the minute I opened the box. The wood and finish on this guitar is gorgeous. I especially like the tuning pegs. The action is perfect for what I play. It is low and fast. I love the sound of the nylon strings. I also like the "pick-up" in the guitar. It allows me to boost just the bass or the treble which makes it great for soloing. Overall, I am very pleased with this guitar. It is light and easy to carry around.
