Yamaha NP12 61-Key Entry-Level Piaggero Ultra-Portable Digital Piano Black

Description
The NP-12 is a 61-key digital piano that takes Piaggero's signature concept of slim, light, and compact to a new level, offering a wide variety of uses with simple, user-friendly functions.
Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) Stereo Sampling
AWM, Advanced Wave Memory Stereo sampling is a sampling system that mirrors the sound and expression of the original instrument using advanced digital technologies. It creates a unique, rich sound through the artful comingling of multiple waveforms.
Stereo Speaker System
The NP-12 uses an efficient stereo amplifier that generates a solid sound in this slim, light and compact digital piano. Warm, round bass and clearly articulated treble result in a depth of sound and color that will charm you and keep you playing for hours.
Piano Preset songs
The NP-12 also contains performance data for piano songs as well as voice demo songs, for your listening and play-along pleasure.
Battery Power or AC adaptor
The NP-12 can be used with an AC adaptor or with batteries (the 6-hour battery life is the key to Piaggero portability). It also has a function that turns off the power automatically if the keyboard has not been used for 30 minutes in order to avoid using power unnecessarily. This also supports long battery life.

For Pros Too
The "entry-level" marketing almost made me not buy, as I'm a pro musician. But this is a great little instrument for rehearsals, cowriting sessions, and even the occasional casual gig. The piano sample sound is better than the old model, and the machine is light as a feather. For the price, it can't be beat. And the white version just looks cool. Into it.

No power adapter included
I agree with the other two reviewers who are annoyed that it wasn't clearer the AC power adapter is NOT included. I just wasted 1.5 hours round trip picking this up in person only to find that it didn't have one until I got home.

I bought this piano a little more than two years ago. I read a lot of reviews but couldn't seem to find what I was looking for. I have two master's degrees in music, but before I bought this piano, my keyboard skills were shakey. I wanted a piano with full-size keys and five octaves. Anything bigger wouldn't be portable. I also didn't want a lot of extra sounds and functions, just a decent piano sound and realistic action. I couldn't seem to find what I wanted, but then I walked into the Guitar Center and saw this piano. There were several others, all more expensive (one, much more), but I liked the feel of this one best. The action actually felt more like a real piano to me than the higher-end one. I have played this piano almost every day since I got it. I can play all of the major and minor scales and arpeggios well, and several standard progressions. I would say I'm playing at the solid intermediate level right now. I could easily pass any class piano requirements at any school of music, and my sight reading is light years better. I put a shelf on the wall next to my bed for the piano. With headphones, I can play when my wife is reading or even sometimes when she's sleeping. This is one of the best investments I've ever made. I wish I'd had one when I was in college.

I wanted a keyboard that would play on batteries, had built in speakers and was very portable. Tried another brand first, and returned it, thanks to GC policies. I bought the NP 12 as an open box. It came through perfectly. I look at it as a mini version of my Yamaha P515. I just wanted it for travel, or to play on the front porch. For the price it is not a bad keyboard. I did not expect it to do a whole lot, but it does layer sounds and I could shift octives, and that was a winner for me, and it plays on batteries or AC. I have tried other brands of keyboard, but alway come back to Yamaha. I now own 4 Yamaha's, P515, tyros 5, mx49, and now NP12. Love them all. Thank you Guitar Center.

I play in a semiprofessional Dixieland Band. This little Yamaha is fun to play and it sounds great! I just brought it to rehearsal for the first time. The band members loved it! For me, the biggest advantage is the light weight. As any working musician will tell you, the worst part of playing gigs is hauling and setting up equipment. My nine pound NP 12 makes that part ALMOST a pleasure!

Okay, so this was an emotional experience for me, I am returning to the piano after many years, I got rid of my last piano 20 years ago because it was too big and needed tuning, so this little piano fits in a tiny space in our new home and it never needs tuning! Reconnecting with all the old tunes and my old piano-player self has really made this old guy feel young again!
