MODX+ Overview

Yamaha's Tech Talk: Introducing MODX+

Description
Combine Samples and Synths
The MODX6+ sound is derived from the same technology powering the flagship MONTAGE—Yamaha’s AWM2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) sample-based engine and the FM-X (Frequency Modulation) synth architecture. This unique mixture results in stunning emulative acoustic instruments, synthesized sounds, drums and more. AWM2 technology allows for a large amount of data compression without sacrificing sound quality, resulting in unparalleled, realistic sound reproduction. On the other hand, the FM-X engine is a highly sophisticated form of synthesis capable of producing awe-inspiring sounds with remarkable dynamic range and unprecedented power and fidelity. Together, AWM2 and FM-X give you the ability to create an impressive array of sounds that have never been heard before.
Add Movement to Your Sound
The real performance power of the MODX6+ series comes from its Motion Control technology, putting rhythmic and dynamic control at your fingertips for a unique, personalized sound. The Super Knob allows simultaneous control of up to 128 parameters in a single Performance. This means you can control nearly anything from mix functions like volume, pan and effect sends to detailed synth parameters like filters, LFOs and operators. Motion Sequences are tempo-synchronized, completely customizable control sequences that can be assigned to virtually any synthesizer parameter and provide incredible new ways of creating sound.
Ready for the Road
Taking a page from the MONTAGE series, MODX6+ keyboards have an extraordinary amount of power and features, but the difference is in its form. MODX6+ has a modern design that’s considerably lighter, making transport easier and load-in a breeze. If you’re looking for a lightweight keyboard that can travel easy, but you’re not willing to sacrifice sound and performance features, then MODX6+ is the right keyboard for you. Let MODX6+ empower your creativity and inspire your music.

Fantastic addition to any synth lovers arsenal.
I'll start by saying I'm a diehard Roland fan with a side-love for Native Instruments sounds, and in my 30+ years buying and playing synths of all kinds, I've somehow never owned a Yahama. I actually went into my local Guitar Center to pick up a Korg something-or-another and got to playing the MODX6+, having no idea what it was or what it was capable of. Within 5 minutes I knew I was going to walk out with my own. This thing produces some of the most unique sounds you didn't know you needed. Not only that, it's pretty good at traditional sample-based sounds as well (though not up to par with what Roland offers). All of that and some great drums, sampling capability and a pretty competent sequencer round out what I think is one of the best synths of the past decade. If you're sitting on the fence, I recommend checking it out. My ONLY complaint? I didn't care for the feel of the MODX8+ weighted keys, so I opted for the 6. Your mileage may vary but I find Yamaha's weighted keys to be almost TOO weighted.

Not What I Expected
First impression were the videos I saw on Guitar Center. The sound engine was very impressive; triggering the purchase. However; once in my possession I learned that most of the sounds/tones are really patches comprising various sounds/tones. Me using my MPC as the centerpiece of my studio; I couldn't easily find an answer anywhere how to trigger the sounds collectively ie: channel 1 would only trigger one tone in the patch. After about a week of not being able to figure this out I just returned it to Guitar Center as the sounds weren't as impressive on their own. For a live musician; I could see this shining though.

The MODX+ is a powerful workstation with an impressive sound engine, giving me a wide range of possibilities, both in the studio and live on stage. The MODX+ is truly a versatile keyboard for all situations. The interface is intuitive and the size is super compact. It's a mini monster.

This Little Montage , how every one is calling the MoDX 6+ is a wonderfull Keyboard that surprize me every day. With so many user/library storage to get crazy with your own sounds, and so many internal presets, MoDX is a good mine in studio but alsoein Live shows. Importing midi files as patterns, with 8 scenes, combined with 4 knobs/faders, this little synth workstation can became from a fun synth to a proffesional gear. 128 AWM and 128 FM poliphony is a good combination. You may get lost in so many presets, so the live sets and the Favorite option helps You make a usefull list of the best presets You like. You will just love MoDX If You try it

Great Compact keyboard for live Gigs. powerfull sounds and expansive editing and sound creating possibilities. endless amounts of sounds with separate arp sequence for each sound can be layered together, this keyboard is powerful enough to pull it off with ease. FM ep sounds are The best. For than classy 80s sound. the fender rhodes sounds are average to be honest. pianos are very good. Synth sounds are big and powerful. Very Lightweight and the Keybed feels Good. You wont get a better workstation for the price! #sweepstakes #sweepstakes
