I've been following the transacoustics, but couldn't fork out the cash for the LL-TA. Instead, I got the tonewood amp, which is really amazing and I've put it on a few acoustics. Then I discovered this FG version of the transacoustic and just had to get it, since it's a lot cheaper than the LL version.

I played both FS and FG version of this guitar, and they both sound out of this world, just amazing. I've seen every video on youtube on the transacoustic, with studio headphones on, but nothing can really capture what it sounds like and feels, playing it in real life.

I play primary fingerstyle, so I thought the FS would be a better fit, but for some reason, FS has narrower string spacing at the bridge, so FG is much better for my needs.

After playing for a week, I think really this is the only guitar that I'll ever need. Once you have transacoustic (or tonewood amp) it's hard to play a guitar without one. This yamaha just simply sounds much better than a "normal" acoustic. It plays smooth, really nice neck, finish, sounds great even without the TA turned on. I've upgraded my saddle to bone, and strings to 80/20 elixir lights... I can't put this thing down.

If you are considering it, just go to your local guitar center and try it out. I guess because Yamaha makes a lot of low end guitars, there may be a perception that they aren't great. I can tell you, when you're at the store and pick up every $600 guitar they have and compare to the FG-TA, there is simply no comparison. As soon as you turn it on, you'll know why there isn't going back.

Comments about Yamaha FG-TA TransAcoustic Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I just walked out of my GC after playing this guitar. OMG I was impressed. I've been playing 50 years, most of them professionally and never heard something like this. The dreadnaught body gives it a rich lower end and the fingerboard is effortless to play. The internal effect will blow you away. Go in and play one. As Yamaha says, this will inspire you to play a whole lot longer. Cons...I would like a tuner and a 3 band graphic eq. Seems that wouldn't have been that much harder to incorporate. Only 4 stars due to no eq or tuner.

Comments about Yamaha FG-TA TransAcoustic Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is the most amazing acoustic guitar I've ever played in my entire life. I'm an electric user, and not only that, but prodominantly a bassist. When I walked into my local Roseville guitar center, one of the employees that I happen to be sort of friends with said, "dude. Check this out. No wires, no inputs, but there's knobs." He fiddled around with the knobs. There is a reverb, a chorus, and something else that I can't immediately remember, by oh my goodness, this thing was AMAZING. Yamaha are really stepping it up!

This is the best acoustic guitar that Yamaha sells

Comments about Yamaha FG-TA TransAcoustic Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I am amazed at how great this guitar is after three weeks of ownership. Took a couple days of play to open up the tone, but it was already pretty good out of the box. The transacoustic effects are the main the reason I bought the guitar, as I own some very nice Taylor's and Martin's already. The effects make the guitar a huge tone monster that must be experienced to believe. I bought this over the phone from my closest and favorite GC which is Palmdale CA, and had it shipped to my house. This is the best acoustic guitar that Yamaha sells in my opinion, so check it out!

Comments about Yamaha FG-TA TransAcoustic Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

If this guitar had a tuner, an eq, and an instant on chorus, I'd buy 2! When I played it with no effects, and wanted to switch to the chorus, I had to hold the button down. This won't work for "on the fly" changes. Ok, so the tuner and eq aren't that critical, but that button needs to be quicker.

Yamaha hit a homer run with this one

      By Dogtrucker

      About Me Experienced

Comments about Yamaha FG-TA TransAcoustic Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this at GC in Rockford, Illinois. I have a variety of high end acoustics and was looking for a cheaper "beater" guitar I could stand playing while I'm on the road (trucker).
First few strums I thought, "Wow! this cheap guitar sounds wonderful". Then I realized what it was and "Wow" again, the effects are really effective. The 'verb makes the instrument take up more space and seem a lot more resonant. I strummed it hard and sang in a gutsy full voice and this acoustic gave me a very adequate accompaniment. So often, I plug in an acoustic just because they are generally not loud enough to support a full-voice vocal (except my Martin hd-28). This Yamaha is fairly loud but the extra fullness of the reverb makes a big difference and the mahogany body (I presume) gives it a punchy, focused sound.
I suppose the my Martin has more rich and sonorous lows and my om Larrivee has more chime and sparkle to the highs but this Yamaha does a good job of splitting the middle and giving a very balanced and pleasing sound.
I am thoroughly happy with my purchase.

I'm a flamenco player and wanted to get a steel string acoustic just to have for fun.. went to guitar center and tried a bunch of different guitars; Taylor, Martin, Breedlove, etc. Yamaha makes great flamenco guitars at an affordable price range so I picked up this Yamaha FG-Trans Acoustic and was blown away. Its an all solid wood guitar and the tone is amazing. I tried it up against a guitar that cost 3 times what this one does which had similar wood and construction and this Yamaha gave the other one a hard time. It sounds amazing, and also has a device which allows you to put Reverb and Chorus on the guitar acoustically, without having to plug up. This technology is very impressive!
