Yamaha CG102 Classical Guitar Demo

Yamaha's CG102 classical guitar opens the door to the rich, warm tones of nylon strings. Drawing from decades of craftsmanship, the CG102 was developed to deliver inspiring sound and accessible playability for beginners and developing players alike. The Yamaha CG102 is a full-size classical guitar with a solid spruce top and nato back and sides. Its rosewood fingerboard and 52mm nut width provide a familiar feel for fingerstyle techniques.
Solid Spruce Top Sings with Beautiful Tone
The CG102's solid spruce top is a tonewood prized for its balanced, articulate sound with pleasing projection. As you play, the spruce top vibrates freely to produce notes that bloom with harmonic richness. Spruce is also highly responsive, allowing beginners to develop sensitivity to touch and dynamics.
Nato Back and Sides Add Warmth and Fullness
The nato back and sides work with the spruce top to create a tone that is both bright and warm. Nato provides a pleasing warmth and fullness, enhancing the spruce top's inherent clarity and articulation. Together, these tonewoods yield a sound perfectly suited for classical and fingerstyle techniques.
Traditional Build Techniques for Optimal Resonance
The CG102 is built using time-honored techniques like traditional fan bracing, which allows the spruce top to vibrate as freely as possible for full, resonant tone. Its dovetail neck joint, another traditional design choice, provides exceptional stability and sustain. These traditional build techniques have endured for good reason, producing instruments with richly musical tones that stand the test of time.
Playability for Beginners and Beyond
With its familiar 52mm nut width and rosewood bridge and fingerboard, the CG102 has a comfortable, accessible feel for classical guitar technique. Its nut width provides ample space for complex fingerings while still feeling familiar to most players. The rosewood fingerboard offers a smooth surface for fingering chords and melodies. Whether you're just starting out or looking to brush up on skills, the CG102 makes practice and performance feel effortless.

I use it to learn some mariachi songs, practice fingerstyle picking, And how to learn classical songs. I also use it as a standard acoustic guitar because its easier to play than a steel string acoustic. I also use it to record media and to produce songs. Its a great multi-purpose guitar.

I use the CG102 for everyday practice. After the initial few days, the guitar holds its tuning well but I check it still.
Great entry and intermediate level Classical guitar

Originally bought this over 8 years ago, my first go at a classical guitar. Even though I have experience now and novice player, the guitar doesn't feel like a "starter" or "student" guitar (despite being great for entry level). It feels great to hold and play. Of course I spent hours trying the Cordoba, a beautiful dolcet guitar, but for the money, the Yamaha for me is the superior guitar.

After 5 months of practice 1 hour per day and weekly lessons, I returned to GC and played with many guitars at different price points, more expensive and one vintage. I did not find a guitar that I like more than my CG102, I am very happy with the way it sounds and plays.
Excellent starter guitar

What is the size of the soundhole in inches. I want to add a soundhole cover to the guitar so I can practice quietly. Thanks
Yamaha doesn't list the sound‑hole diameter for the CG102 in its official specs, but based on its CG-shaped full-size classical body, you can expect the measurement to be around 3.9 inches (≈99 mm).submitted7 months ago
