C40 Gigmaker Package

To the first time guitar buyer I say: If your interest is in country, folk or any contemporary music you would be better served by one of Yamaha's steel stringed acoustic guitars. My string action gauge tells me that right out of the box the guitar was set up close to perfect. There is marginal room for improvement in both the string action at the bridge and the intonation. In my opinion it is so close that it isn't worth paying a luthier even a modest fee to the make adjustments. Just to make it clear, string action at the nut and relief in the neck were perfect. I'd have liked to have seen more fret marks than just the one for the 7th fret on the side of the neck. In the long run it is irrelevant. Other than that fit, finish, tone, and playability are all one could ask for. The Gigmaker Package is a very cost effective purchase. The gig bag is very nice, though I bought a hard case as getting the guitar in and out of the bag is cumbersome and in daily use repeated in and out of the bag will likely result in scratching the finish or snagging a string on the zipper. The DVD is a valuable learning resource and introduction to guitar inspite of not at all having anything directly related to classical guitars. It is much better suited for acoustic and electric. The tuner is functional and comes with the plus that it tells you which E, A, D, G, or B you're tuning too, but I don't use it because the spring for the clamp is irritatingly stiff when I go to mount it on the headstock. I keep it as a spare. All and all a great value and a good guitar. I'd give the guitar 4.9 stars and the package 4.5 stars.

Decent guitar with little issues

This guitar was great for me to start learning. It sounds great. One problem would be the coating on the 4th string started to come off. Also, the neck is a little wide for a beginner to learn barre chords.

My son learns to play on this guitar for three years already. Before we have bought C40 full size, he had just smaller sizes. It is good instrument to start playing the guitar.

Great learning classical guitar !!!! For the price you will not find a better classical guitar !!!! Everything in this guitar is very well built . The action is very good and the sound is nice ; not as loud as I wanted , but is alright . and pleasant to the ear . Would very much recommend for beginners !!! It is a wonderful inexpensive guitar with a quality built as most Yamaha's are. I used it (bought it) because I was traveling , and it was much cheaper buying this guitar then taking my very expensive Spanish guitar on the plane and getting it damaged . ' like it has happened to many guitar players !!! Better safe than sorry !!! Was very surprised how nice it sounds !!!

Does this guitar have strap buttons or pins to attach a guitar strap?

The Yamaha C40 Classical Guitar does not come with strap buttons installed. Like most classical guitars, it’s designed primarily for seated playing, and traditionally they don’t include strap buttons.

Is this a nylon strings guitar?

    Yes, it is.

Does this have an adjustable truss rod ?

    Open Reply - Gear-Support
No, the Yamaha C40 Classical Guitar does not have a truss rod. Most classical guitars, including the Yamaha C40, have a fixed neck without an adjustable truss rod because nylon strings exert much less tension than steel strings. The neck is typically reinforced using an internal wooden or composite support instead of a metal truss rod.

Cam someone who has this guitar measure the widest part of the body? I'm waiting on 25 of these for my class and want to get a rack on the wall completed. So I want to leave enough space on each side when they are hanging.

    Open Reply - Gear-Support
You need to give yourself a minimum, of 14 1/2" each.
