Simply put this is the best PJ basses you can buy. It plays easily, sounds great, and is built very well. Fit and finish could be a tiny bit better but really hardly anything to complain about. I play in multiple genre's so the 3 band equalizer and passive active feature are very nice and work well.

Yamaha makes such quality instruments, bass being no exception. And yet...Why, Yamaha, Why!? Why does your company offer such nebulous, ambivalent, un-nameable colors? Electric guitars have some sizzle, some pizzazz; basses look like they were painted by a sleepy house painter.

When the BB734a is in Passive mode, does it sound better, worse or the same as the Bb434, which is a dedicated Passive bass??? Thanks

Ahhhh. Welcome to bass playing. This is strictly opinion. My Ibanez and Warwick are active but both have the option for passive. I prefer passive.
