VOX Quick Jam: AC15C1

VOX Custom Series AC15C1 Demo (1 of 2)

VOX Custom Series AC15C1 Demo (2 of 2)

Description
Both channels share master Tone Cut and Volume controls. The Tone Cut control operates in the power stage rather than the preamp stage, allowing an additional degree of tone shaping. The Master Volume control works in conjunction with the individual volumes of each channel to create just the right degree of gain staging. By balancing the individual and Master volumes, the VOX Custom Amps can deliver everything from a clean VOX "chimey" sound to a powerful overdriven tone.
Sound in Motion
You can sweeten the sound of your Custom Series amplifier using the VOX Classic Tremolo, with adjustable speed and depth. A warm Spring Reverb is also included on all Custom Series guitar amps, adding spaciousness to the sound. All VOX Custom amplifiers can use the VOX VFS2 footswitch, allowing you to turn the Reverb and Tremolo effects on and off as you continue to play.
Power Sharing
The VOX AC15C1 combo makes use of three 12AX7 preamp tubes and uses a pair of EL84 tubes to drive a single 12" Celestion G12M Greenback. All guitar amps in the VOX Custom Series offer a switchable 8/16-ohm output jack for powering an external speaker cabinet when you need to speak with a little more authority; using this jack will mute the internal speakers. Additionally, a second extension speaker jack allows you to run an extra 16-ohm cabinet along with the internal speakers for a fuller sound.

It seems everyone who is interested in this amp are in the dark. There are no consumer reviews of it anywhere. So I hope this helps someone. I have owned anything from all tube Laney to Marshall amps and still own a Vox AD120VT, which is the reason why I bought this amp. Because all I ever ended using were the Vox models. Anyway I am very impressed with this amp! The normal channel sounds great, but then you plug your guitar (I'm using a Tele deluxe with Humbuckers)into the Top boost and wow! A whole new world of chime heaven. Very warm, rich, dimensional, and articulate. and very big in sound for it's size. For a 15 watt amp this little guy is really loud! I set this amp up next to my AD120VT balls to the walls both amps at level 10 and the AC15C was holding close to even with the AD120VT (120 watts). This does not make sense to me! I guess true that tube watts are louder than Solid State watts. You can easily play with a loud drummer with this amp and still have some clean volume before break up. I also liked the overdrive. When the Top boost channel was gained out the break up was thick and warm. There were a lot of complaints about the Vox AC Custom Classic series reverb being to big and washy. I don't know if Vox used the same reverb tank in this amp. It too seems a little big, but I like it. Think of the opening theme guitar riff of Shine On You Crazy Diamond. As for eq there is a tone cut knob for the main volume (power amp section) that gives you some control of any treble harshness you might have. The Top boost channel is more versatile then the Normal channel it also has Treble and a bass knob to tweak it's preamp's section. Before I bought this I thought I would need to get some good tubes for it, but it sounds great the way it is and I'm sure Vox designed the amp circuits around the tubes they would use in production. I can't wait to try out some Mullards and Tung sols in it after the warrenty expires. The only thing I wish this amp had was pedal jack to switch between the 2 channel, but it's Ok that can be done with an a/b pedal switcher. Aside from that I am very happy with every thing about this amp and I feel like a made a great choice in buying it. I would definitely recommend it.

So loud it loosens the wax in my ears...
I tried out a lot of valve combo amps in the under $1000 range at GC. This one sounded best. I liked that it had a channel volume so I could crank the gain without a pedal. And I liked that it had good on board reverb & tremolo. My telecaster absolutely roars through it. It has, on occasion, literally shaken the wax in my ears loose. There is a flaw though, at least in the one I have. Not sure when it started (I bought it summer 2019) but I get a rattle from the amp at high volume / gain. From what I've read it could be an issue with a tube or the reverb tank...

Great amp with easy controls. The reverb and tremolo sound great. Having separate channel and master volume allows you to dial in your gain and still play at bedroom levels. It's quiet enough for me to practice after my youngest goes to bed, but will get loud enough to gig with.
Gorgeous tones, easy to use, a classic

I bought this amp after playing through it on every visit to my local Guitar Center. It has so much character, and really lets the character of any guitar you plug into it shine through. The tremolo is gorgeous and the reverb is very nice as well. I love this amp.
Love it !

Great amp! Too loud for a bedroom (thought the windows were about to blow out) but awesome in the living room! Has that great vox sound and I love the greenback speaker.

I played several tube combo amps at Guitar Center before choosing the Vox. I really just loved the sound. It's a bit heavy, but much lighter than my Fender 2x12. I don't intend to have to move it much anyway. There were two amps in the store. Unfortunately, the one I brought home had terrible static and whistling, which I had not appreciated in the store. I assumed it had a bad tube, which apparently is a thing sometimes with these amps. After reading some other reviews, I see now that other people have probably had this problem. I usually purchase the protection plan on larger items; and had gotten it for the Vox. I don't think I would have needed, since I returned the amp in just a few days. However, since I had the protection plan there was absolutely no hassle. The folks at GC remembered me. They quickly took my defective amp and handed me the other. When I got home, I plugged in several different guitars; and they all sounded awesome. I would give this advice to anyone buying a tube amp. If you buy it new and it has an unpleasant sound when you plug it in, return it. If you buy it used, try replacing the tubes. The Vox AC15C1 is made in China "under the direction of Vox R&D England". It actually says this under the serial number! I guess that means the quality isn't always consistent. I'm very glad I was able to get a good one on the second attempt.
