Description

The next-generation Apollo Twin Series is a ground-up redesign of the original—delivering enhanced audio conversion with the tone, feel and flow of analog recording. Apollo Twin MkII improves upon the original Apollo Twin’s gold-standard audio quality with completely redesigned A/D and D/A conversion. Available with a choice of UAD-2 QUAD, DUO, or SOLO Core processing onboard, Apollo Twin lets you record through the full range of UAD Powered Plug-ins—including genuine analog emulations of iconic vintage recording gear.

Next-Generation Apollo A/D and D/A Conversion
Apollo Twin MkII improves upon the original Apollo Twin’s gold-standard audio quality with completely redesigned A/D and D/A conversion—giving you increased dynamic range and ultra-low THD. This next-generation conversion results in breathtaking clarity, depth, and accuracy in recordings—as heard on hit records by Kendrick Lamar, Coldplay, Brad Paisley, and more.

Unison™ Mic Preamp Emulation Technology for Neve, API, Manley, UA & More
A Universal Audio breakthrough, Apollo Twin MkII’s Unison technology gives you the genuine tone of the world’s most sought-after tube and transformer-based mic preamps—including Neve, API, Manley, and UA—complete with their signature impedance, gain stage “ sweet spots,” and component-level circuit behaviors. Based on Apollo Twin MkII’s unrivaled hardware-software integration, Unison lets you record at near-zero latency through preamp emulations like the included UA 610-B Tube Preamp, for authentic analog sound unmatched by other interfaces. Unison technology is also found on Apollo Twin MkII’s front panel Hi-Z instrument input, providing dead-on impedance and gain matching for exclusive guitar and bass amp models from Fender, Marshall, Ampeg, and more.

Realtime UAD-2 Processing — a Studio Full of Analog Sounds
Building upon the Apollo tradition, Apollo Twin MkII opens up a range of classic analog tones and color via its Realtime UAD Processing. Available with a choice of UAD-2 QUAD, DUO, or SOLO Core processing onboard, Apollo Twin lets you record through the full range of UAD Powered Plug-Ins — at near-zero latency. Right out of the box, the Apollo Twin MkII includes the “ Realtime Analog Classics” suite of UAD plug-ins—the UA 610-B Tube Preamp & EQ, Raw Distortion, Softube Amp Rooms, legacy LA-2A and 1176LN compressors, Pultec EQs, and more—so you have a rack full of bonafide audio classics already onboard. Unlike competing interfaces, the Apollo Twin MkII powers UAD plug-ins inside all major DAWs for mixing and mastering (VST, RTAS, AU, AAX 64 format), greatly offloading the processing required from your host Mac or PC.

Available with UAD-2 QUAD, DUO, and SOLO Core Processing
In addition to the popular UAD-2 SOLO and DUO Core models, Apollo Twin MkII is available in an ultra-powerful UAD-2 QUAD Core model, allowing more plug-in horsepower for running the most complex and convincing analog emulations on the market.

Built to Record: Improved Monitoring and Workflow
Apollo Twin MkII offers greatly improved monitor functionality versus the original Apollo Twin — with Mute, DIM, Mono, and ALT speaker switching. It also includes monitorremote controls and a built-in talkback mic for easy communication with talent and/or recording slate cues. These features, combined with Apollo Twin MkII’s scalability, make it the new standard for professional desktop recording.

Professional Performance and Scalability with Console 2
Users of Apollo Twin MkII can combine up to four Apollos and six total UAD-2 devices — adding I/O and DSP as your studio grows. Once you expand your studio with anApollo 8, 8p, or 16 rackmount unit, you can use Apollo Twin as a desktop monitor control while still tapping its additional I/O and DSP power.

LUNA Recording System for Mac

Included as a free download with all UA Thunderbolt audio interfaces, the LUNA Recording System is designed to give Apollo owners the most natural, inspiring and analog-sounding music production environment available for Mac. This digital system integrates directly with the hardware to deliver analog sound and creative immediacy. It uses real-time processes more commonly associated with analog recording, versus typical digital audio workstation (DAW) workflows.

Deep Integration With the Apollo Interface

In addition to its seamless hardware-software integration with Apollo and Arrow, the LUNA Recording System allows capturing audio through DSP-powered UAD plug-ins with no discernible latency. The system also includes Accelerated Realtime Monitoring, which provides fast analog-style tracking and overdubbing workflows using Apollo’s onboard DSP acceleration. LUNA's deep Apollo integration will be a revelation for anyone who has not recorded music on a highly expensive, DSP-assisted recording system. LUNA makes music production feel more robust, dependable and intuitive, without latency and monitoring hassles.

Extensions Built Directly Into the Software

The LUNA system works with a variety of exclusive LUNA extensions, including two that come free with download. These are not plug-ins that require multiple instances and windows—they are controlled from within the app. The Oxide LUNA extension comes free with download and features multitrack tape emulation, bringing the warmth and punch of tape to any audio or instrument track. For those who want to delve deeper into magnetic tape sounds, there is the Studer A800 multichannel tape recorder extension (sold separately). Other available options include the Neve Summing extension, which recreates the audio summing circuitry of the Neve 80-Series audio mixing consoles designed by Neve Electronics in the 1960s and early 70s.

LUNA Virtual Instruments

LUNA also features the first-ever virtual instruments from Universal Audio. Using their expertise in electrical and acoustic modeling, sampling, synthesis and signal processing, UA was able to make their LUNA instruments realistic, responsive and "alive." Free with download, LUNA includes the Shape creative toolkit with modern and vintage keys, drums/percussion, guitar/bass, orchestral content and real-time synthesis, courtesy of Universal Audio, Spitfire Audio, Orange Tree Samples, Loops de la Creme and more. Sold separately are premium instruments including the Moog Minimoog synthesizer and the Ravel grand piano, which is based on UA-exclusive samples of a Steinway Model B.

Other features include auto-saving, UAD and AU compatibility, auto-saving and AAF session imports from other DAWs. The LUNA system is free to all owners of Thunderbolt-equipped Universal Audio interfaces including Apollo and Arrow. It requires a modern Mac running macOS Mojave or later.

The UAD hype is real!

Universal Audio has won me over and over with their analog versus digital Plug Ins. At first, I was a little skeptical in purchasing this unit after my Audient Pre's went out. I didnt want to spend a lot on a mobile rig but D/A converters are important to me. I decided to give them a shot and I was not disappointed. If you have a great mic this can be a super legit on the go setup. When I can't make it to the studio I use this unit and the Manley Voxbox and I am confident in what I am tracking. The only downside to this unit is the switching between the DAW and UAD console. As well as the learning curve of setting up Auxs. However, there are plenty of great videos, just be prepared to spend a little time learning your new gear. Thanks GC & UAD!

Don't do it!!!

Ok so no I'm not impressed I got this a year ago. I've been recording for 12 years now and interned at two different studios now the first was sponsored by U/A so obviously they recommend this to me but now having worked at another studio and hearing the difference in quality I say if you ever strive for a professional sound from your home studio this won't do it. Poor preamps lead to poor recording. Sure you can spend days trying to eq. To get things to ok but that is it ok is not good enough. I've spent more money on compressors mics and a nice preamp only to learn this interface is junk. Antelope is a bit more but in the long run is will be less. My 100 dollar presonous sends a cleaner signal

I traded in my focusrite 2i2 for the Apollo twin x and I absolutely love it. The clarity it's unmatched and the sibilance is next to none. I use it with studio one and the difference is night and day.

Historically I have been a Motu user. Satisfied for at least a couple of decades. Things change, they always do. My Apollo Twin Duo was instant satisfaction. Now it's just getting more plug-ins overtime. Good investment. So far so good.

Haven't even gotten very deep into what it can do and I love it. Just sent vocals through a preamp and immediately felt the upgrade.

Was slightly skeptical of how much of a difference the Apollo would make given the price point. Plugged this thing in and started recording - it's a total game changer. Recordings I'm getting with the Apollo are cleaner than some of the fully processed vocals using my old interface.

Do I need the Thunderbolt 3 version of the Apollo Twin MKII Duo to work with my iMac with a thunderbolt 3 output? Not sure if this question makes sense. My iMac is new with Thunderbolt 3. You have two Apollo versions listed on your website. Will it matter if I get the one listed Thunderbolt, or Thunderbolt 3 and if so, how much? Andrew
