One of the Better Sounding Djembes

This Toca Freestyle II Rope Tune Djembe is nicely made, light weight, well-constructed, and sounds great if tuned properly. The finish and clean looking construction of this djembe is great. It has the look of a traditional African drum but uses all of the modern materials of today. The head is synthetic, which is great if you drum in all type of different weather conditions and locations. You don?t have to worry about the rain, humidity, or the beach. Because all the materials are manmade, they stand up to a lot of different conditions. If they get wet, but try not to get them wet, you can wipe them down and they will still sound good. And don?t leave any drum out in direct sun for extended periods of time.I like the rope tuning better than metal hardware tuning. Once you tuned them to the way you like it will remain tune, almost under any conditions. No metal means less weight. I am sure that the rope tuning is by far the best way to tune a djembe. You have 24 to 35 point evenly pulling the skin around the rim. Not like the metal tuning that have about six and no more than eight points of pressure to pull it into tune. And because it is an artificial skin it does not get out of tune like a natural goat skin. With careful placement of some tape on top of the head you can also eliminate the extended ringing that is associated with artificial head. Some people like the ringing, so it is a matter of preference. I do not, so I have a 3inch of white surgical tape on the opposite side from where I strike the head. This stops the ringing from traveling back and forth.Overall I have 7 djembes and this is the one I use to go to the beach with. It is light weight to carry for long distances and I don?t have to worry about it getting destroyed by the elements.

Can not tune this drum down

Too high of a pitch and ringtone! Why is there no way to tune down this drum? I play with a band on a mic and need a much lower bass tone. This Fiberskin Freestyle ll came with no rope diamonds on it to loosen it like what comes on on a goatskin Freestyle Djembe. You can only create diamonde to tighten it up and that is not what I need. Very disappointed!

This is one of my best drums. Got it at guitar center several years ago. Light and plays well. Note to Susan in FL. Drums all have high or low tones. You buy the right on for your needs, you do not rate poor unless it does not play well. You need to try a drum. I never ever buy online. Only in person. I play an instrument first. Tunable drums from a trusted seller yes I might, but all my drums I played first.

  • Great sound of Bass and Slaps - Pre tuned

This is a GREAT instrument for Beginners or Experienced players. It is light weight and easy to hold or use a shoulder strap. With little play time Big Bass and Hot Slaps can be gained. Used in a group, this drum tone cuts through for solos also.

  • Best hand drum I have ever played.

This drum feels so good to play and has such an amazing sound. I have it in my music studio at home, and every single time I walk by it I have to pick it up to play. I can't get enough of it :)

I have purchased two of these I liked the first one so much. If you have larger hands the next size up will be a better choice. Bang for the buck this maybe the best Djembe on the market. The range from high end to low bass is fantastic. Super lightweight with great carrying bag. I have five African wood Djembes from Ghana with bigger heads that don't sound much better.

My other drum is mahogany and it is heavy. This drum has great tone, and is wonderfully light to carry around.

The image on the 10 inch and 9 inch african dance djembe is not correct, it is showing the deep red one. Can you guys change that? I also wanted to confirm that if I buy the 10 inch african dance, that I would recieve the correct djembe and not the one pictured.

The pictures we have are provided by the manufacturer. We can request more, but it's possible they no longer make that drum which is why we don't have the picture. You would however get what is described over what is pictured.

Not happy with the fiber skin! :( Just bought one of these 12' Freestyle ll rope tuned drums (used from an ad on facebook marketplace) but it has a much higher pitch than I like for playing on a mic with a band. I would especially like a lower bass tone on my drum. There does not seem to be any way to tune it down. There are no diamonds to loosen like there are on my freestyle goatskin pvc drum. It looks like you can only tighten this drum. Unfortunately, there are currently no Freestyle Goatskin pvc shell drums in your store. Can you suggest some way I can get a lower bass tone?

It's difficult to explain over text, but I would suggest looking it up on YouTube or the Toca website. Or you can always give us a call at 866-498-7882 and we can try and walk you through it.
