Taylor
Description
There's something undeniably inviting about the Taylor GS Mini's scaled-down size, yet a single strum reveals the impressive voice of a full-size guitar. That mix of portability and musicality has proven to be a winning combination that fits into so many scenarios in life, from the couch to the campfire to the concert hall. It's not too big, it's not too precious, and it's not too expensive. That broad-based accessibility has given it a resounding universal appeal, not to mention a built-in fun factor. The shorter 23-1/2-inch scale length makes forming chords a breeze yet gives the instrument plenty of snap and tuning stability for a rewarding playing experience. The acoustic-electric versions enjoy a sweet upgrade with Taylor's ES2 electronics. All GS-Mini models include a durable hard bag built by Taylor for the optimal fit.

Tone Woods
A guitar's top is the primary filter and distributor of vibrating string energy through the guitar, which means it has a huge impact on its sound. Sitka spruce is the most prevalent guitar top wood of the modern era. It blends stiffness and elasticity in just the right proportions which translates into broad dynamic range with crisp articulation. Layered rosewood back and sides offer robust rosewood tone with low-end fullness and high-end sparkle. The arched back of the guitar generates more sound from a small-bodied instrument, and using layered wood back and sides create a sturdy yet receptive platform for the vibrating string energy sent by the guitar's top. Layered wood is also less susceptible to changes in temperature and humidity, making it an excellent choice for players who travel with their instruments or simply require more durability.

Electronics
The GS Mini is amplified via the Expression System Basic (ES-B) system, which incorporates piezo design elements from the flagship Taylor ES2 system. It's powered by an onboard preamp that includes a built-in digital chromatic tuner, an LED display for tuning and low battery indication, and Tone and Volume controls. The preamp/tuner is powered by two button cell 3v lithium (CR2032) batteries. Two new batteries will provide approximately 300 hours of use. The ES-B conserves battery life using a standard on/off system that will automatically turn off if left on over 3 minutes. A low battery indicator on the LED display (located on the preamp circuit board) will display an “L” when the battery reaches 4.5 volts.

I was looking for an easy to handle guitar for sitting on the coach and writing music. It's size and weight make it perfect for such use. Not too mention it has a great sound and stays in tune. I also have a 73' Gibson Dove, 73' Guild F50 Birds Eye Maple and a 2020 Gibson Hummingbird. Each guitar has its own sound and are classics for recording and live play. But the GS is the writer. While the others stay cased the GS hangs in the wall making it the go to tool every morning! Love it!!

I'm having a great time playing this guitar. That said, the default set up was unplayable, so don't be surprised if you struggle with it straight out of the box. I took it to a local luthier with a good reputation. Taylor has a list of certified techs on their website. Also, I know Taylor recommends medium strings for this guitar, but I changed them for extra light (my preference as a player coming from only playing nylon string guitars). The mediums were really ripping up my fingers.

I'm a beginner. That said, I purchased my first guitar from a well known major brand about six months ago. I just traded it in on a Taylor Rosewood GS Mini at Guitar Center in Paramus, NJ. The difference in quality between the "major brand" and Taylor is unbelievable! You can feel the quality of the Taylor in your hands. The neck and fretboard feels so good in my hands. I just can't believe the difference in quality and I can't put the Taylor down. It's that good.

  • Great sound from a small package!
