NEW Taylor Studio Series Guitars | NAMM 2025

Description
The Taylor 314ce Studio acoustic-electric guitar brings together the classic appeal of Taylor’s Grand Auditorium shape with thoughtful refinements that enhance both tone and style. This model offers players the versatile sound of a Grand Auditorium body paired with premium tonewoods at a more attractive price point. The 314ce Studio's torrefied Sitka spruce top, all-gloss body and chamfered edges make it as visually stunning as it is sonically rich, providing a well-rounded experience for players of all levels.
Torrefied Sitka Spruce and Sapele for Bold, Expressive Tone
One of the standout features of the 314ce Studio is its torrefied Sitka spruce top, which has undergone a specialized heating process to give it the sound and feel of a guitar that’s been played for years. This enhances the tonal depth and resonance, allowing notes to sustain longer and with greater clarity. Paired with sapele back and sides, this guitar delivers a warm, punchy sound with balanced highs and lows, making it an excellent choice for both fingerpickers and strummers.
Taylor’s V-Class Bracing for Superior Sound Projection
The 314ce Studio is equipped with Taylor’s revolutionary V-Class bracing, a major innovation that improves the guitar’s volume, sustain, and overall tonal clarity. V-Class bracing aligns the top of the guitar in such a way that notes resonate more fully and in harmony with each other, creating a purer, richer sound. This makes the 314ce Studio more responsive, allowing players to enjoy better intonation and greater consistency across the entire fretboard.
Expression System 2 Electronics for Studio-Quality Sound
For amplified performances, the 314ce Studio comes equipped with Taylor’s Expression System 2 electronics. This system features a behind-the-saddle transducer that captures the natural acoustic qualities of the guitar with exceptional clarity. Whether you’re playing live or recording, the ES2 offers professional-grade sound with easy-to-use volume, bass, and treble controls for fine-tuning your tone. The system ensures that the guitar’s natural sound is faithfully represented through any amplification setup.
Perfect for the Versatile Player Seeking Tone and Value
The 314ce Studio is ideal for versatile players who want premium tone without a premium price tag. Whether you’re a gigging musician looking for a reliable workhorse or a home studio enthusiast seeking high-end sound for recordings, this model delivers on all fronts. With its rich tonal palette and comfortable playability, the 314ce Studio is also an excellent choice for collectors who appreciate the combination of style, value, and exceptional craftsmanship.

Gorgeous Looks and Playability Can't Make Up for Flat Sound

For several months, I had my eye on this particular Taylor model. When I found one that had a finish that I absolutely loved and was on discount as an open box item, I finally pulled the trigger on making the purchase. Upon arrival, the guitar was fun to play immediately, although it was clearly not set up very well (the action was VERY high). I went to make an adjustment to the truss rod and discovered it requires a deep or thin-walled 1/4 socket wrench to manipulate, instead of the standard Allen wrench that is on most guitars. No big; I bought the proper tool and put the action where I liked it. Unplugged, the guitar sounded quite nice and played like a breeze. Running it through my PA system for gigs, however, was a different story entirely. Taylor describes this guitar's sound as warm and full-bodied (which is what I like; it's one of the reasons I was interested in this model), but plugged in it was anything but. It came through very muddy and with too much treble, creating a very "chimey" sound through the PA. I made countless EQ adjustments on the guitar itself, on my Boss EQ foot pedal, and on the PA system, but it still sounded very high pitched, flat, and much too crisp for my liking. I toggled the phase switch to reduce the boost (which helped a little) and even tried using a feedback cover over the hole, but it still sounded like a cheap toy. Additionally, whenever playing a solo the B and high E strings were MUCH quieter than the rest; you could barely hear them, which is ironic considering the guitar sounds like it has too much treble. After 2 weeks of trying to get it to sound at least somewhat decent, I gave up and returned the guitar. As I'd mentioned, I got this as an open box item, and I suspect it may have been returned by someone else before me for these very same reasons. Maybe this was a one-off and the pickups one this guitar were not placed properly, but I am extremely disappointed with how this turned out. When paying nearly $2000 for an instrument, I expect much better, especially form a revered brand such as Taylor.
