Great little scratch pad and excellent demo recorder.
This recorder is a great inexpensive digital 6 track recorder. It is not filled with a lot of bells and whistles like effects and mastering software but for this price you would be crazy to think it would. It is easy to operate and the results are as good as your input. If you put in a poor signal, you'll get a poor recording. Someone wrote a review saying the manual is too difficult to understand. I don't think it is but on the other hand I have been using Tascam recorders since the mid 70's so I understand their method. If you take some time to go step by step as written, you get excellent results. If you record you can easily bounce the tracks internally to open more than 6 tracks and export to any recording software in your computer, add effects and EQ and do a for final mix by importing through the decks USB connection. A ton of possiblities in a very small portable package. I carry mine along to gigs and hook it up to my mixer to record the band. I take it home, move the SD card to my computer, bring up Audacity or Sony Sound Forge and make an edited audio CD of the performance. So easy to do.

I would not buy again. I would not refer a friend to buy.
This is not the easiest device to use. After reading the manual I was able to record through my mixer. I also wish this was back lit. It is a little hard for my older eyes to see.

fantastic tool to quickly record a musical idea than, run it in your head for a while while you do something else till the next idea comes along than add that to it on a separate track. Its simple to use, it does not take too long to start up. Great way to store musical ideas threwout the day. I used to use a one track recorder for this but having more than one track really streamlines the process. The mic setup is cool in stereo as you can move the unit to get a panning effect that adds interest to the recording.
Works as advertised. Excellent sketch pad

Very compact, easy to use, captures ideas very quickly. There are six tracks that are very usable. You need to bounce tracks over to get the full six. No big deal. Usually I use the first track to capture a drum track then the second track to capture whatever lick/riff that I hear in my head. Not too many bells and whistles, very basic. Enough to captures your musical ideas. I have one in my bag and one in my guitar case.

As others will point out, learning to use the recorder might seem complex at first. But, take your time and review the instructions, as well as some Youtube videos, and it becomes clear and easy. The printing on the instruction manual is almost too small to read, but you can download a pdf version of it, and print it out larger if you need to. I used it recently in a short performance, where it provided background tracks to enhance my presentation. Because of its size, and the fact that it's batter powered, made it very simple and easy to add to my setup. I'm very satisfied with this unit.

This is really just a 4 track. It does what 4 track machines do, but in order for it to be usable I had to buy a little table lamp do I could read the LCD, and getting the AC adapter is an absolute must. The SD card is hidden in the battery compartment, so to get my WAV files onto any computer that has a modern OS, you'll have to take out the batteries with every new master you intend to get onto your computer. The device is extremely technical, but with a little practice (keep the manual handy at all times) you'll make satisfying 4 track demos and such.

I want to start recording my own demos. Can I record guitar, bass,Vocals and drums with this?? I'm looking at just recording the drums with just one mic in a open room.
This probably isn't what you need. You have only two tracks simultaneous recording. Check out the Tascam DP-008EX Digital 8-Track Pocketstudio.submitted5 years ago
