Cheap breakable MSL-SCT tension lugs on Starclassic Maples
submitted5 years ago
bydrum wonder

The cheapness of the components is evident once a breakdown occurs. The Tama MSL-SCT Tension casing lugs are plain junk. They break in two places quite easily. I don't know whether they are made from pot metal or plastic. If they get loose or somehow crack on the outside from tensioning, one can see how fragile they really are. The portion of the lug that accepts the screws when attaching to the shell appear to be made of plastic and will crack if too much tension is applied. Tensioning from the top can split the lug and also crack where the screws attach it to the shell. Now maybe using this light weight component creates a better sound property, but it will definitely not stand up compared to real metal hardware.
