The Sterling by Music Man StingRay RAY34 electric bass delivers rich, solid sound and eye-catching style, crafted with a solid nyatoh body and stunning sparkle finish. Featuring a roasted hard maple neck, modern contoured body, 3-band active preamp and SBMM alnico humbucker, it’s built for iconic bass sound with a classic look and contemporary feel. Additional appointments to the StingRay RAY34 include a roasted maple fingerboard with 21 medium frets, an SBMM design bridge, open-gear tuners and chrome hardware. It comes with a gig bag.

    So this bass has an active preamp, but another listing of a different color said its pickups were passive. Can it be played without a battery?

    No. The pup is passive. It's the EQ that's active and requires the battery.
