Exploring the Squier Sonic Series Mustang Models | Fender
Compact, powerful and easy to play, the Sonic Mustang HH is designed for players who want bold humbucker tone in a short-scale format. A lightweight poplar body keeps the guitar comfortable and well balanced, while a 24" short-scale maple neck offers a slinkier feel with reduced string tension for effortless fretting and bending. The Indian laurel fingerboard provides a smooth playing surface with a balanced tonal response that complements the guitar’s punchy voice. Dual ceramic humbuckers deliver high-output sound with clarity and focus, making the Sonic Mustang HH a strong choice for modern rock and alternative styles and players who want power without sacrificing comfort.
Dual Ceramic Humbuckers With Strong Output and Definition
The Sonic Mustang HH is equipped with two ceramic humbucking pickups designed to deliver a bold, high-output signal with tight low end and clear articulation. A 3-position toggle switch lets you select the neck pickup, bridge pickup or both together, offering a range of tones suitable for chunky rhythm work, driven leads or cleaner textures. This setup provides the punch and presence needed to stand out in a mix while remaining responsive to playing dynamics.
Short-Scale Maple Neck for Fast, Comfortable Playability
A 24" scale length shortens the distance between frets and reduces string tension, making bends, vibrato and fast passages easier to execute. The slim “C”-shaped maple neck promotes a natural hand position, while the Indian laurel fingerboard supports smooth movement across the neck. This combination makes the Sonic Mustang HH especially appealing to players who prefer a compact feel or want a more relaxed playing experience.
Stable Hardware for Confident Performance
A 6-saddle hardtail bridge provides solid intonation and tuning stability, helping the guitar stay consistent during extended practice sessions or live use. Sealed die-cast tuning machines offer smooth, accurate adjustments, while chrome-plated hardware adds durability and long-term reliability. This straightforward hardware setup supports dependable performance without unnecessary complexity.
Simple Controls for Quick Tone Shaping
Master volume and master tone controls keep tone shaping intuitive and immediate. Combined with the 3-position pickup selector, this layout allows players to adjust their sound quickly and stay focused on playing rather than managing controls. The result is a clean, user-friendly interface that works equally well for beginners and experienced players.
A Short-Scale Guitar Built for Power and Comfort
The Sonic Mustang HH is well suited for players who want the feel of a short-scale guitar paired with the authority of humbuckers. Its lightweight construction, comfortable neck profile and high-output pickups create a versatile platform for practicing, writing and performing. For musicians seeking a compact electric guitar with a modern edge and confident tone, the Sonic Mustang HH delivers a compelling balance of comfort and power.

Short scale 24" for teenage daughter with petite hands. Already plays violin and piano. It's actually a full size length, only the bridge moved forward on the body to shorten the scale. Fret ends are a bit rough but it sounds very nice through a basic frontman 20
Nice guitar for the money.

As an entry level guitar it gets the job done. Would recommend replacing the guitar strings and a tune up. Other than that it's great. Light weight and not expensive so you don't have to worry about chipping your expensive guitars when you just want to mess around and strum a few songs.
Fun little guitar

For the price, the quality is superb. And frankly, it's just one fun little guitar. The 24" scale length is something different, and I get to pretend to be Kurt Cobain. Highly recommended.
Surprisingly Good!

While most of my guitar collection is mid to upper level Fender, Gibson, PRS, among others, I was drawn to the Squier mustang. On the most recent local GC visit, I played a bullet and sonic mustang back and forth for about an hour. There was no question the sonic was better.
Yes, definitely!

I am an older guy. Played guitar a long time. I loved the Bullet Mustangs, but I love this one as much or more. I have nothing negative to say about this guitar, like the placement of the toggle switch. I say get used to it! This is a great sounding guitar with an easy and fast playing 22 fret neck. I am quite impressed. If you take care of it, it will probably become a collector's item in a few years. I would take another one for modifications, but I don't want to change a thing about this one. I want to keep it original. Don't be surprised that this is a bit different model from the Bullet Mustangs. I was very pleasantly surprised. It's pretty awesome that one can buy a nice guitar like this for the price listed. It's amazing!

Will a lefty be able to use this or does it come in a lefty?
It's possible. You would need to have the nut replaced. I think the saddles are alright. You may want to speak to a guitar tech to see what's involved.submitteda year ago

I'm interested in purchasing Seymour Duncan Pickups for both the neck & the bridge. Would a Guitar Tech be able to install them for me? My concern in this particular guitar is I do not know the number of conductors that the guitar pickups should have. Would it be 1, 3, or 4?
Yes, a tech can install them.submitted2 years ago

Country of origin? And are the parts manufactured there or elsewhere? Are parts of Fender design?
The Squier Sonic Mustang is made in Indonesia. Most of the hardware is from China. Absolutely, it's all Fender design. Other than who's hand were put on it, it's a Fender.submitted2 years ago
