Exploring the Squier Sonic Series Bass Models | Fender

Description

Compact, approachable and easy to play, the Squier Sonic Bronco Bass delivers classic Fender-inspired tone in a short-scale design that feels instantly comfortable. A lightweight poplar body keeps the bass well balanced, while a slim “C”-shaped maple neck with a narrow 1.5" nut width supports relaxed fretting and confident hand positioning. The 30" short scale length reduces string tension for a smoother feel, making the Bronco Bass especially inviting for players with smaller hands or those moving from guitar to bass. A ceramic single-coil pickup provides clear, punchy response with focused low end, giving this bass a voice that locks in easily with drums and rhythm guitars.

Ceramic Single-Coil Pickup With Focused Clarity

The Sonic Bronco Bass features a ceramic single-coil pickup that delivers crisp articulation and punchy attack. Its focused output highlights note definition and dynamics, helping basslines remain clear and supportive in a mix. From steady groove work to simple melodic runs, this pickup provides a consistent and reliable tonal foundation.

30" Short Scale for Comfortable, Relaxed Feel

A 30" short scale length shortens the reach between frets and lowers string tension, making the fretboard easier to navigate. This design is especially beneficial for beginners, younger players or guitarists transitioning to bass. The shorter scale also contributes to a warm, rounded tonal character while maintaining a responsive feel during longer playing sessions.

Simple Controls for Easy Tone Shaping

Master volume and master tone controls keep adjustments intuitive and immediate. Knurled flat-top knobs allow for quick changes, whether you want added brightness or a smoother, rolled-off sound. This straightforward layout minimizes distractions and keeps your focus on timing, feel and groove.

Durable Construction With Everyday Reliability

The poplar body is finished in gloss polyurethane for added protection against wear. A maple neck paired with a laurel fingerboard provides stability and a smooth playing surface, while sealed die-cast tuning machines support accurate and dependable tuning. Chrome-plated hardware adds durability and a clean visual finish suited for regular practice and performance.

A Short-Scale Bass Built for Confidence and Growth

The Squier Sonic Bronco Bass is well suited for beginners, developing players and anyone looking for a comfortable short-scale bass with clear, punchy tone. Its lightweight build, slim neck profile and uncomplicated electronics create an inviting platform for learning, practicing and playing with confidence. Designed to feel manageable without sounding small, the Bronco Bass offers a rewarding entry point into electric bass.

What a Beauty!

I was in the store to order the Surf Green Sonic P when I saw this sexy thing hanging on the wall. My thoughts were: "Please play as good as you look. Please, oh please, oh please..." I'm a sucker for a short-scale and I was not disappointed. The Tahitian Coral is much lighter in person and is a bit more pink while the one in the photos looks more orange. I like the tuning machines on this version much more than the Squier Affinity Broncos and the neck feels great if you're into the satin-type finish. I walked out the door with the floor model - it's the only one they had so I'm not exactly sure how it plays straight out of the box. The stock strings are decent, though I'm thinking of switching to tapes and I lowered the action a bit to get a little more spank out of it. This isn't my main bass so I don't expect to do any mods. Would be great for a beginner or a guitar player looking to get something a little more comfortable to play - not a challenge to reach and hold the low F. I'd have another if they come out with more colors that I like.

Good product. Bad condition.

The model is nice. When I got it home I realized that GC sold me a bass with a broken machine head. Also I found that two set screws on the bridge were missing. No set-up what so ever. I'm not happy and I may not be back.

While making adjustments I noticed single coil pickup was a 6 string guitar pickup. Explains the poor dynamics.

I saw this bass in blue in GC and played it a little. After I returned to GC 2 more times to play it again, I knew I liked it enough to buy it. Then I saw pictures of the white one and liked it even better. GC had it in stock, so it came home with me. This bass is easy to play, with a fast, thin neck and decent balance. Because it's easy, it's fun. What's interesting is that I played the previous generation Bronco bass but didn't like it. This new Sonic series Bronco is quite different: much more comfortable to play and easier to tune and set up.

I wasn't planning to buy another bass, but after playing this Sonic Bronco I had to have it. The neck is nice and thin and it's relatively light at just under 7.5lb. Setup was good from the factory; I just loosened the truss rod a bit and lowered the strings. The QC was great with no fret sprout whatsoever, a well-fit neck pocket, all the screws in straight, and everything tight. Unlike my other basses, it has zero noise (other than the tiny bit of single-coil pickup hum) so it seems to be shielded well. The bass balances well and I like the growly sound from the pickup. The white model looked gorgeous in pictures, and didn't disappoint in real-life. I love the way this bass looks and plays.

  • I would definitely buy this guitar again

I use the guitar for Spanish music. It sounds great when slapping the strings. Definitely a great buy and have recommended it to friends who play similar type of music. I honestly do not have any bad experiences with it so far.

  • A lot of bass for a small amount of money

Had to order since my local GC did not have in stock. Needed a bit of set up (truss rod, string height). I have small hands so this scale length is perfect for me. Sounds great for playing and recording. Have recorded direct and into amp sims, great sound either way + thru Rumble amp
