Sunset 6 Extreme Beats Jackson Pro Series Juggernaut

Misha Mansoor (Periphery, Jackson Guitars, Horizon Devices, Neural DSP, single-handedly responsible for Djent as a genre of music) did an Inception on me. He got me to believe that it was my idea all along that obsessing over guitar specs is the only way to be sure you're getting the right tool for the job; and he's absolutely right. Or, rather, I'm right. Because Inception! And I believe he might have done an Inception on Schecter as well, because the Sunset 6 Extreme's spec sheet reads like Misha designed this guitar. But if you compare it to his Pro Series Juggernauts (not the 2025, more expensive Pro-Plus, but the previous series), the Sunset 6 Extreme has a few very essential differences: Stainless Steel Frets Schecter USA Pickups Superior 5-Way Pickup Selector Pickup Selections Positions 2 and 4 on the Juggernauts have always sounded the same to me. The difference between "split inner coils" vs. "split outer coils" is so small to my ear, of course that's just my opinion. But positions 2 and 4 on the Sunset 6 Extreme do something special. Something that I've not found on many other guitars: Position 2 is the inner coil of the bridge pickup and the outer coil of the neck. This is something I've only recently seen on Tim Henson's (Polyphia) Ibanez TOD10 (the one with Fishman Fluences). A sound Tim likes so much it ended up being the default selection whether you have the push/pull up or down in position 2 and also what you get if you're in position 3 with the push/pull tone pot switch pulled up. If you listen to Polyphia, you know THIS SOUND. Position 4 is the neck pickup in parallel. Most humbuckers are run in series, which gives them their fullest/loudest tone. But when you run one in parallel, it's like the sound of two single coils, except they're right next to each other. When done on a neck pickup, this gives a tone somewhere in between the sound of a Stratocaster's neck pickup (position 5) and its neck and middle pickup (position 4). A neck pickup in parallel is a tone WAY CLOSER to a Stratocaster than a split coil selection running outer coils of a neck and bridge humbucker. These two pickup selections on the Schecter Sunset 6 Extreme, in my opinion, make this guitar WAY MORE VERSITILE and MUCH MORE Strat-like than most other guitars with humbuckers on a 5-way selector. Want to get the most out of this guitar's positions 2 and 4? Run them through a Marshall or "Plexi" style amp to really get the Strat-like tones to sing! This guitar is a sleeper. A sleeping GIANT. Don't sleep on it.

Originally when I got this I had to return it due to faulty locking tuners, but I loved the guitar itself so much I bought another one, and I have not regreted it since. A guitar of this quality for under 1K is insane. The neck feels and plays amazing, the pickups sound amazing for everything except super super heavy low tunings which even then, they are still pretty dang good. The tuners on the one I have now actually hold tuning really really well. I see myself playing this for years to come.
Great value for the price

This guitar is fantastic as-is. Pickups are versatile enough to cover all but Djent styles. For under $1,000 from a renown brand coming with USA-made pickups of quality might I add, stainless steel frets, a beautiful ebony fretboard with unique aluminum ring inlays and a gorgeous flame maple top with the ergonomic carve, you'd be hard pressed to find any competition to this that doesn't cost hundreds more. Schecter knocked this one out of the park AGAIN.
