Perfect head design
The thing about this bass that caught my attention was the head design. This is the way a stringed instrument is supposed to be, and I'm surprised it's not available on any other bass. I can tell that this was designed as a student instrument because of its small, light weight body, and the plain finish has all the glamour of a little red wagon. But I absolutely love it!

Unplayable out of the box...
The bass is lightweight and has a decent sound to it. It has a reasonable tone, especially for a bass in this price range. Expect that you may have to turn up your amp, as the signal out is a little low. I usually play a five string jazz electric bass, and this one is for my eight-year-old son. He's super excited, and this is an instrument I could play at church and certain other places. However, be aware that my bass arrived completely unplayable. Long story short -- the action (the distance between the strings and the fret board) was so low that the strings were laying on the fretboard up and down the neck. I had to adjust the truss rod several turns in order to make the bass even playable. The average buyer purchasing one for a child or beginning player might think they had purchased a lemon. I was worried at first myself. Thankfully, adjusting the truss rod is easy enough, especially because they do include most of the tools you need (you'll still need a Philips screwdriver to do the job). If you are uncertain how to do it or nervous you'll hurt your guitar, you'll want to add a professional setup at a local music store to the cost. I've never received an instrument like this, which is unnacceptable to me. But the bass itself is just fine once you've made the proper adjustments.

This bass is a great value and is good as-is but can be upgraded at a later time to be a very good bass. Because of the size and shape of the headstock this bass does not have very much neck dive. A good wide strap will work well with this bass. There are no string retainers on this bass because it has an angled headtock. The string pull is straight and the downward tension is good. The nut was at the correct height and filed perfectly. The paint is very good. It has a nice heavy bridge but with standard Fender baseplate holes so it can be easily changed. I don't think it is neccesary, it is perfectly fine. Body weight, metal knobs, neck, fretwork and the fretboard are good. The fretboard itself is very thick rosewood. No bad fret ends or uneven frets. Pickups are fine and with EQ adjustments on an amp, they give a nice sound. Not quite a typical Pbass sound as they don't have the same midrange characteristics. These could be easily changed if desired. The volume knob is good but the tone knob on mine was a bit uneven. It does bright/middle/low so it is working well enough for a Pbass. The holes in the back of the bridge for the strings only accept a lightweight 1.00 E string and not a 1.05, but for a beginner (and many professionals) a 1.00 E string is a great guage. Tuners are very rudimentary but they do hold tuning. They are the first thing to upgrade if desired. The peg holes may not fit a standard replacement so reaming the holes may be necessary. It was not much work if you have a 5 to 16mm t-handle reamer and work from both sides equally. The neck on this bass is similar to a D-shape Fender which would be found on a '70's Pbass. It is large but very comfortable. Some find that thin necks can cause cramping when played for long sessions. Personal preferences can differ.

It came out of the box with a broken tuner. I couldn't play it ONCE. Don't fall for the "I'll buy a cheap one first, then I'll get a better one later" routine. Go for a good one, and don't have headaches on Christmas Day.

I love my bass! Like a lot of people during COVID I decided to pick up an instrument and I fell in love with my bass. I have only played electric and acoustic guitar in the past but this bass is amazing for people who are just starting out. Great quality especially for the price. If you are looking for a sign to get a bass- here is is.

I have been playing guitar for over a year and I've gotten pretty good at it and I have a couple of guitars so I decided I wanted a bass. So I chose this basically because it's cheap. You get what you pay for with this. The pickup's make weird crackly noises and there's a lot of fret buzz. Also, I can kind of hear a buzz when I pluck an open string and I tried to adjust the truss rod but the buzz didn't go away. The output jack is also pretty noticeably loose. I can wiggle the cable around while it's in there. Going away from the flaws, it is a bass guitar that works and I enjoy playing on it. If I had more money to spend I would not have gotten this bass though.
