Marvelous instrument!

I've been playing regular guitars for 50+ years and decided to try a lap guitar. The instrument arrived shortly after I placed my order. I also ordered a Shubb SP3 slide to use with it. I did change the strings and used a C6 tuning (CEGACE) after checking online finding that is one of the one more popular tuning choices. While the instrument is cheaply priced, it is NOT cheaply made. It's a fairly high quality instrument that is flawless looking and produces lovely tones! The tone control is effective and provides usable tone alterations. The volume control works smoothly. The Telecaster-like knobs make it easy to manipulate volume/tone as one would on a Telecaster. The single coil is very efficient. I used my Fender Twin Reverb and it sounded great! I also ran it through a Fender Champion with Boss Fender Reverb and was also very pleased with the tone. For portability, I tried playing it through a Roland Micro Cube and was surprised at it's tone. I added a bit of echo/reverb and it sounded great. The other effects on the amp also added additional flavor to the sound. While the tuners are not the best in the world, once it's been tuned, it stays pretty much in tune! Intonation is spot on! Bridge allows adjustments like Strats/Teles if needed. Mine arrived perfectly adjusted. While priced like a toy, I assure you, it's NOT a toy! The construction quality is A-1 ! The adjustable legs are perfect for those not wanting to play it on the lap. It produces professional-like sounds suitable for performances and the appearance certainly has a professional quality to it. I've read where some people have changed the pickup with a higher quality single coil or with a humbucker. I'm sure those would make changes to the tone, but it's perfectly wonderful JUST THE WAY IT IS. I'm thinking about buying another one to tune in a different key for different song requirements.

Not Bad for the Price

If you're just learning to play the lap steel guitar this isn't a bad buy for the price. However you might want to pick up a new set of strings that usually run around $9-$11 because the strings it comes with are terrible. Also make sure you get yourself a cable with a 90 degree end. The plug in for this guitar is directly on top and it makes it very difficult to change the volume/pitch while playing this lap steel. You might also want to pick up some different finger picks and a few slides until you get comfortable with a certain brand or type. All and all it's not a bad buy, but you got to upgrade some of the equipment to get that good sound. It comes with it's own carrying case so that is helpful. Like I said if you're looking to learn the lap steel this is a good buy for the price.

The one I bought stopped working 3 days later and had screws falling out. When I called to see if they had a replacement, the employee told me "what do you expect from an instrument that price?" I expect it to work if you guys sold it to me, even if it is an entry level instrument.

  • Great little guy for the price.

I have to say for a guitar in this price range especially a slide guitar it actually stays in tune. I purchased new strings, but I didn't even need to use them because it's set up pretty decent. The legs stay, but you can tell after a while they might get a little loose.

  • Yes I probably would. Nice little steel for the pruce.

Just beginning but i am anxious to get started. Only thing that bothered me to begin with when I took it to get it set up there was a couple problems I had to get fixed. #1 keys were very loose, #2 Saddles one was striped. But I had new ones put on (better quality) and it's really great now.

I see a lot of people saying to replace the strings, so what kind of strings should I get? Please be specific. I know they need to be heavier.
