Natural rawhide heads have to be constantly tuned to the right pitch especially in very hot and humid conditions but not with these synthetic heads. The calfskin finish also simulates the look of a real skinned drumhead. The sound is phenomenal. Detuning after gigs or sessions is strictly optional but I always detune, just a natural habit. The crimplock design also gives the drums I use a very clean looking professional appearance and the finish is very smooth on the hands, less roughness overall. I would highly recommended this to a fellow percussionist as a much needed backup or as a primary part of their equipment.
