Long lost treasure
I change heads, dampening, cymbals, sticks beaters etc etc etc depending on the music and situation and these things are great for a lot of studio and live situations from dampening a bass drump to making a nice wet sounding floor these are fun. People seem to have forgotten about these with all the $50 bass drum heads but I still use them for all kinds of stuff from cocktail kits live to 10in deep snares in the studio. Best of all they are cheap and reuseable.

2 questions: 1) How much quieter, by percentage (eg. 80% regular volume), would you say these rings make the drums? I'm most concerned about snare. 2) I'm seeing some comments about using tape for these to work best. I'm using this for student groups and the rings would be going on and off frequently, depending on personal practice vs group practice. Would this be easy to manage?
The tape is up to how you play. Some people complain that the ring will shift slightly and deaden the note that comes when they perform a rimshot, but a lot of others say that isn't the case. If I had to put an estimate the percentage it would be probably between 25-50%. As far as ease, this would be the easiest option available.submitted7 years ago
