PreSonus
Description
The PreSonus Inspire 1394 FireWire Audio Interface is a FireWire recording system featuring professional quality 24-bit/96kHz A/D/A conversion for extremely clear, dynamic sound.

The Inspire 1394 gives you four simultaneous inputs. These include two XLR jacks with custom PreSonus preamps and switchable phantom power. The mic and instrument preamps are designed for ultra-low noise, high gain, preamplification of all types of microphones and instruments.

Two Hi-Z 1/4" instrument inputs and two selectable line/phono jacks on the back panel have a switchable RIAA filter, making them perfect for DJs and vinyl owners converting LPs to digital.

Outputs include RCA unbalanced and mini TRS jacks plus a headphone jack.

Up to four Inspire 1394s can be daisy-chained for up to 16 simultaneous inputs.

A software control panel gives you control over all vital parameters including: input gain, phantom power, limiter (off/on), preamp boost (off/on), sample rate, headphone volume, main output volume, and zero-latency input mixing with playback mixing. The software control panel also serves as a mixer between you and your computer playback and your inputs for zero latency recording.

Inspire 1394 FireWire Audio Interface comes with Studio One Artist music creation and production software. It has the same platform and intuitive interface as Studio One Pro and has an unlimited track count.

The PreSonus INSPIRE 1394 works seamlessly with all virtually all popular recording software including Cubase, Nuendo, Sonar, Cakewalk, Logic, Logic Express, Digital Performer, and many others.

The INSPIRE 1394's powerful hardware and software capabilities combine to offer you one of the smallest, yet powerful computer recording studios ever.

    Great for home studios

The Inspire is great for anyone starting a computer based home studio. The Inspire interface is easy to use and it can also supply phantom power to your condenser microphones. Another great feature is that you can link a few of these things together, making it easy to mic an entire band at the same time. The software it comes with is a great compliment to the product. The direct line in works great, I use it for all of my bass recording. If your looking for an inexpensive way to start a computer based recording setup, start with an inspire, you won't be dissapointed.

    Great Product...when it works...

I purchased this unit, mainly, to record books that I need to study for school, and then play them on my iPod. It worked perfectly for about 2 weeks, then all of a sudden I could not get the unit to synch anymore. Details are beyond the scope of this review, but suffice to say, presonus admitted the unit was defective, and they have FAILED to own up to their warranty claims. Instead they just send me to my local music store to "run tests"!! Its been 3 months already and no solution. Because of this UNNACEPTABLE support practices I would NOT recommend presonus as a company in general. PS - I have ALREADY wasted $ sending the unit back to them twice! Why not just replace it!!???

    • Great device - but check hardware compatibility!

I really liked this equipment and the software it comes with, of which I downloaded demos ahead of time. So I was really excited when it came in the mail. But I made a mistake. I did not check the hardware compatibility which I found on the Presonus knowledge base. Turns out that my integrated ATI Radeon 9000 video adapter is not compatible and there is no workaround. SO I get noise, distortion and random audio problems. Now I have to figure out another solution (or buy a new laptop). So I would recommend this product, but check the hardware compatibility first!

This is a real flexible interface. I use Logic Studio and Main Stage. I use this interface to input output bass and keyboard that run thru logic studio and output to an amp - via RCA output to an amp. No major issues to report. Although for some reason, there appears to be some conflicts in OSX which sometimes disable the interface when I am using external Lacie HD - I think that this is an OSX issue and not a presonus issue. I would definitely buy another one.

Straight out of the box, the PreSonus Inspire was easy to set up and work with. I use Logic and the integration with the software has been seamless. The sound quality delivered has made me realize how much I need to buy new headphones!

The price on the unit was pretty good, but there are too many issues with trying to get it to work right. It takes a while, and you hve to sift through several settings. This may be a Vista issue--had to go to the website to download the driver. Still a wait and see for me...
