Pioneer DJ PLX-500 Official Introduction
Description
High-Quality Analog Vinyl Sound
The PLX-500 series inherits design features from the PLX-1000 professional turntable to produce the high-quality sound you expect from vinyl. The shortest possible audio routing from the stylus to the outputs reduces distortion, and the phono and line outputs mean you can connect directly to your sound system or powered speakers to enjoy warm sound.
Easy Digital Recording
A built-in USB output means you can record your vinyl collection to high-quality digital WAV files by simply connecting the PLX-500 to your PC or Mac. Digitizing your tracks is easy using the free rekordbox application and, once they’re in your rekordbox collection, you can play them using the PLX-500 and a rekordbox DVS set-up, or on a DDJ controller, or on CDJs via USB. You can also enjoy them on your mobile devices whenever you want.
Using its audio analysis technology, rekordbox detects the silence between tracks and creates a separate file in your collection for each one, so you can just press play and record a whole album from an analogue source to individual tracks without resetting the recording in between songs. After you’ve finished recording you can name and tag all your new tracks.
Dust Cover with Record Sleeve Stand
You can enjoy the vinyl sound of your records and their artwork at the same time thanks to the dust cover that incorporates a stand for displaying record sleeves when open.

Great turntables for the price point

I use two of these along with an Allen & Health Xone:23 and am able to mix, beat-match (in other words, be a DJ) as well as can be expected. They actually sound great, and it's easy to balance the arm/needle using the same features you would on Technics for making sure everything hits correctly when you drop the needle on the record. ;) I noticed that some people had issues with the START/STOP button not working, and that did happen to me once when I first got the equipment. After I hit the button a few times rapidly, it worked again no problem and has never happened again.
Nice Craftmanship!

Sounds great no background hum at all. The included Pioneer cartridge is superior to all others included with purchase.
Do Not Buy This Turntable!

Honestly, I've always paid for quality. But seeing that pioneer made these, I figured it would be a great 2nd set for me (I used horrible numarks starting off with - not a choice) instead of technics. The internal sound card was a big plus, and the fact that they were under warranty is always a plus to me as far as fixing things go. Let me stop here though, because I've had nothing but TROUBLE with these. The Start/Stop button has went out on me on 2 different brand new turntables! and guitar center does not care that you're a working DJ. they do nothing to get you the turntable on time. This is the absolute worst piece of equipment I've paid decent money for, and I refuse to recommend these to anyone. Lastly, If you buy these after reading this - you will regret it, and you will wish you listened to these reviews. I am using the warranty to get this one fixed, and I will be selling them to buy technics.
I purchased this to replace an aging turntable for home use.

I replaced a Thorens turntable with this. While I don't consider it like for like I was comfortable enough with it that for the price it was a good replacement. The cueing lever and tone arm rest clip feel fragile but the rest feels sturdy. The feature I like is being able to leave the unit on but stopping the platter to change records. The Thorens had a clutch that allowed this and having to either switch off the unit or leave the platter spinning while changing records wasn't what I wanted. I replaced the cartridge with a Grado and the felt mat with a cork one and the sound is very nice.
Would definitely buy again

If I'm not a DJ is there some drawback to buying this turntable?
This turntable would work well and be a good choice even if you're not a DJ. I don't think there would be any drawbacks for non dj's.submitted4 years ago

What is the base made of? Is it the construction as the PLX-1000?
It is the same basic construction. The main difference is the electronics.
