Comments about Phil Jones Bass Compact 8 800W 8x5 Bass Speaker Cabinet:
I know when you think of bass cabinets you would never think of 5" speakers; I've been there. After hearing some product demonstrations of the Phil Jones Bass brand against the traditional bass speaker enclosures (4x10, 1x15, 12's etc) online with a good set of headphones and monitors, I had to check it out for myself.
This little cabinet can kick some arsse and is super versatile from smooth blues/jazz to classic rock to funkin' it up slap style. @800W it is plenty to stand on it's own on the stage with or without PA help in small to medium rooms. The eight 5" speakers are super responsive and give an impressive range from the low to high end. This portable monster can compete with big boy toys of the 8x10's and it is about the size of a wheely travel bag.
I've put my big hunking 13 ply baltic birch Ampeg Pr-410hlf and Pr-810h aside for this cabinet, and I love my Pro series Ampeg cabinets, The PJB Compact 8 can provide the same great sound in an impressive size with even more clearity and response. The big difference is that you will notice the amount of air moving is not the same as the big guys but the same great hulking but eloquent tone and volume are still there.
Listen carefully, you might not like the sound of PJB gear at first because it does very little to color your sound like other gear, and the quick response time of the 5" speakers makes the clarity of the notes sound tight. You might interpret this as the PJB gear sounding harsh using your usual go-to-settings when playing. What you're actually hearing is how much over eq compensation you were using to achieve the sound you wanted out of bigger, slower, mass produced speakers. Please take some time to explore the toniality of PJB Gear and enjoy what this hidden secret of a brand has to offer. Believe me, even the so called mudbuckers of the Fender Telecaster Basses and Gibson SG and EB series bass sound tight with PJB gear.
**I installed my own blutooth controlled LED lights in the cabinet**
