I needed to reduce the volume of my drums during practice times. These fit the bill perfectly.

These heads do an excellent job of making an acoustic kit tolerable for everyone around you if you don't have the luxury of a soundproof practice room. There obviously isnt as much forgiveness, finesse, or nuance as traditional heads but i think the ability to play as hard as you want outweighs the loss of tone for a practice rig. They go in easy and have a lot of adjustments to suit you. These are on par with the silentstroke heads and do wonders when paired with the L80s. You can also play with the notion of using bits of tape around the outer radius to increase the amount of air hitting the resonant head which can give you some extra noise and add some character to each drum as needed. I would definitely recommend these to anyone whom does not have an isolated soundproof practice place or even to someone tired of progressing their tinnitus

  • Excellent....!

I picked up the drums again after a several year hiatus. I found that playing in my un-insulated block basement was much louder than I expected. After doing a little research, I found these heads to be highly rated by others. The rebound is a little more than regular heads. But it's no big deal. They play very realistic. The sound is very muted but the tone is still there. I can have the stereo playing with the volume in the low range and still play along without overpowering the song. These heads would be great for someone living in close quarters. Your neighbors, wife, parents or siblings will be very grateful.

With these mesh heads can the drums be effectively miked or is a drum trigger required?

These mesh heads act as dampeners to lower the volume. A microphone would pick up the low volume sound or thud. A drum trigger would produce a clarified sound.
